County Cup v Watergrasshill United in Skehanagh Park on Sunday 7th December 2014
Watergrasshill United 3 Carrigtwohill United 1
Scorers: Ken Murphy.
Carrigtwohill were knocked out of the County Cup last Sunday against Watergrasshill. Having started poorly, Carrig went 1 down after 10mins when a poor pass out from defense went straight to the Watergrasshill midfielder, who played a 1st time ball through to the striker, who finished well past Dean in the Carrig goal. Carrig settled down after that and started to play their passing football and got their reward halfway through the 1st half when a cross from Ken Murphy went over the keeper’s head and into the roof of the net (though Ken claims he meant it!). It didn’t stay level for long though as 2 mins later, when a Watergrasshill corner was headed clear, the Carrig defense was caught ball watching and the unmarked Watergrasshill right winger headed in the return cross from 10 yards out.
The rest of the game proved frustrating for Carrig as they continued to play good football but struggled to create any clear chances. Tom O’Shea and Ken Murphy had a few shots from outside the area that went just wide. The best chance fell to Gary Sheehan with about 10mins to go when the ball fell to him at the back post but he poked his shot just wide while off balance. Watergrasshill wrapped up the game with a penalty in injury time when their striker broke through and was taken down inside the area.
