5 -START PERFORMANCE FROM CARRIGTOHILL UNTD PLAYER
Rollie Durango was not only a sole representative of Carrigtwohill United but also a sole representative for Division 1 teams in Cork as they took on Kerry in the Inter League match hosted in George O’Callaghan park in Castelisland.
Rollie proved why every team in the league wishes to have him on their team sheet as he was clearly the best player on the park in the first half. Operating from left wing, he created three clear cut chances in first 10mins. The 3rd was duly converted by Darragh Barret of Riverstown as Rollie made a run on the left to turn his man inside and lay it off to the outside of 18-yard box where an onrushing Darragh coolly slotted in bottom right-hand corner. Kerry rushed in back into the game with a well taken header and a tap in as Cork’s left back side proved vulnerable to go 2:1 up. Rollie once again, this time displayed his prowess operating from right wing when he left 2 defenders sprawling before turning in the 3rd to lay it off inside the 16-yard box to Darragh who this time couldn’t replicate what he did earlier on.
The Carrigtwohill sole representative’s efforts were duly rewarded by huge applauds from the sizeable contingent of parents from Cork as his name kept on being heard from the crowd.
Unfortunately, that didn’t last long as he limped off injured in second half. His replacement Ben O’Connell from Leeds United took from where he left and created a wonderful opportunity for Padraig McGrath to score an equalizer. Kerry took the lead again courtesy of a low shot from outside the box before Cork rallied back with another inspired Padraig McGrath strike. To complete their come back the introduction of Mallow Town duo of Eoin Howell and Galilor Erhaba saw their club teammate Alex Uwumoragie bundle in the winner late in the game to win 4-3.
A 1 hour 40 minutes journey back and forth well worth it for Cork contingent.
