3rd May at Ballyadam

Carrigtwohill – 8

Avondale – 5

Last Friday evening, Carrigtwohill Under-16’s got back to winning ways when they entertained Avondale A at Ballyadam Park. This encounter is best described as ‘a rollercoaster’ of a game and the spectators in attendance certainly got value for money witnessing 13 goals!

The home side were again slow out of the blocks and found themselves 2 goals behind in the first 6 mins (a penalty and a dubious offside giving Avondale the cushion).

Eric O Sullivan responded with a fine run and finish from the right on 18 mins but the visitors restored their 2 goal advantage shortly afterwards. Calvin Fitzgerald’s heavily deflected free kick before the break made it 3-2 to Avondale at halftime.

Two goals in 10 mins from Eric would swing the game in Carrigtwohill’s favour and Calvin would get his 2nd on the hour to make it 5-3 but Avondale scored again before Niall Harte curled a right footer into the top corner from 20 yards.

Still 15 mins to play with the score at 6-4 there was plenty of time for David Joseph to head home and Eric to grab his 4th, Avondale pulled another goal back before the final whistle and the game finished an incredible 8-5 to Carrigtwohill!

It’s back to cup action Sunday away to Riverstown when a more measured approach will be needed.
