13th January at Ballyadam

Under-13

Carrigtwohill – 4

Springfield Ramblers – 1

On a blustery Sunday morning, Carrigtwohill welcomed their neighbours from Cobh to Ballyadam Park for a first round local Cup match. Having lost the toss, Carrigtwohill played against a very strong wind in the first half and they struggled to get out of their own half at times. They conceded a penalty after 8 minutes but Springfield Ramblers only hit the crossbar.

Almost immediately afterwards, Carrigtwohill broke forward with Philip Slewa sprinting into the box only to be upended when he was about to shoot. He dusted himself down and smashed the penalty home to make it 1-0.

Unfortunately, they conceded just 5 minutes later after Filip made a great save and the Ramblers forward was first to the breaking ball.

Playing with the wind in the second half, Carrigtwohill took control of the game in midfield and drove Ramblers back. Mark McCarthy took a free about 25 yards out from goal and brilliantly finished to the corner to put the home side 2-1 up.

Totally dominating the match now, a third goal soon followed and Ben played a great ball over the top which was latched onto by Charlie McCarthy who finished well at the 2nd time of asking.

Cillian McCarthy then wrapped up the win with a clever chip over the goalie to put the gloss on a great team performance when all 13 players on the day had to work hard for a deserved result.
