League v Douglas Hall A in Moneygourney on Sunday 2nd April 2017
Douglas Hall A 0 Carrigtwohill United 1
Scorer – Mark O’Connor
The game was played on AstroTurf and proved to be a really tough game. Douglas Hall started well and were very big and powerful. Carrig struggled to get used to the surface and the run of the ball. We played passes too hard and struggled to control the ball in the first half.
We found ourselves pinned back and any Carrig attack was left to Mark O Connor and Eoin Holden. We gradually fought our way into the game and got to half time 0-0 with Douglas Hall missing a harsh penalty against us. The lads took the instructions very well at half time and pushed themselves further up the pitch in the second half. Everyone battled hard physically and it was obvious that we were the better footballing side but the physicality of Douglas Hall and the pitch were a leveller.
We pushed on during the second half and Mark O’Connor won it with a sublime free kick. It was a great team performance which deserved the victory. Everyone played well. The defence of Liam Moore,Tom Savage, Oisin Lynch and Oran Savage did very well under pressure once they settled down. Cameron Kenefick was very good in goal. Adam Rooney, Mark O’ Connor and Eoin Holden worked hard throughout. The stand out players were Eric O’Sullivan and March player of the month Piaras Fitzpatrick. Both were fearless in the tackle and won a huge amount of ball.
Man of the match was Keelan O’Brien. He won his duel against his bigger and more physical marker by being clever and using his unreal pace- well done Keelan.
Special thanks to kit man Mervyn O’Connor who did a great job as always. Training Tuesday in Ballyadam- Text later with details.
Player of the Match – Keelan O’Brien.
