Local Cup v Springfield Ramblers in John Murphy Memorial Park on Tuesday 29th March 2016
Springfield Ramblers 7 Carrigtwohill United 2
Scorers – Alex Canty, Robert Adam.
Carrigtwohill United u-14’s resumed their season with a tricky away Cup tie to Springfield Ramblers this week. It had been 5 months since their last competitive match and it was always going to show.
The Division 1 side started very strongly putting Carrigtwohill under pressure from the kick off. We couldn’t quite settle into the game and our play was very rusty – individual mistakes costing us dearly.
Towards the end of the first half, Alex Canty scored an amazing individual goal – picking up the ball on the right wing he beat two players before beating the keeper at his near post from the end line.
2-1 down at half-time, the next goal was going to be important and it was scored by Springfield after some good work down the left wing. Carrigtwohill did pull another goal back, Robert Adam the scorer, but a comeback never looked likely as Springfield exposed the tiring Carrigtwohill defence and put a gloss on the score line in a clinical fashion.
A difficult tie after such a long lay-off – some good performances notably by Alex Canty, Scott McCarthy and Victor Omesbi in goals who commanded his area.
Player of the Match – Alex Canty.
