On a windy morning we welcomed Macroom to Ballyadam. Led by Captain David Joseph, Carrig started the game very brightly, putting the opposition under pressure. We got caught after 5 minutes when the opposition broke quickly, with their centre forward firing a bullet to the net. 1 down. The boys resumed again in fine fashion, with Liam and Noel working hard on the wings. David and Niall up front were causing problems, and making chances. Macroom grew into the match as the half went on, and a rebound fell nicely at their players feet in our box. Victor in goals had no chance. 2 nil down. Carrig applied pressure, with Niall hitting the post and David bringing the best out of their keeper. Calvin and Ronan were working hard in midfield and supplying plenty of ball forward. Noel was unlucky to be called back after he stuck the ball in the net for an offside.
The second half started tit for tat. The Carrig defence was doing well, with Kuba having come on for Nathan at half time. Nathan had a fine first half but was injured. With John and Cian, Ronan and Kuba snuffing out the danger, and Victor leading from the goals, Carrig soon found a way back into the game. Calvin swung in a great free kick which the Keeper did well to block, but Kuba was on hand to knock the rebound home, 1-2 we were back in the game. David continued to apply pressure and linked up with Niall some minutes later, with Niall coolly beating the keeper. 2-2. Both sides made changes, Ben coming in for Liam, and Sean coming on for John. There was no let up with both sides chasing the win. With the game almost over Carrig sprang another attach. Niall did some excellent work cutting in from the right and finished to the top corner. 3-2. A few minutes later the ref blow for full time. Well done to all the lads, who played very well and have shown great improvement from the start of the year. Keep up the team work. Have a great day on your Confirmation from all your coaches.
