Carrigaline Hibs – 0
Carrigtwohill United – 4
Carrigtwohill were back on the road again, next up was trip to the Astro pitch in Carrigaline to take on Carrigaline Hibs. Hibs had been promoted to Div. 1 this season along with Carrigtohill so this was a match that the coaches had targetted for 3 points. Conditions were superb as was pitch, this was the perfect game to play the passing game that this team has been working on so hard in training. There was a small worry coming into the match that 4 of the players were either sick or injured and there were doubts if a full strength team could be fielded.
The first half was tight enough with chances at both ends but as the half wore on, it was Carrigtohill that looked more likely to score because they were getting the more clear cut chances. The first goal came with about 10 minutes to go in the half when Jacob Neumann won a corner for the team and Dan Guiney who was just back from injury crashed the ball home to make the score 1-0 to Carrigtohill .
In the second half Carrigtohill began to dominate, the whole team was magnificent as they moved the ball around the pitch quickly and created more and more chances. The second goal came when Sean Guiney put in a great cross which Cathal Doyle coolly dispatched to put the score at 2-0. The third goal came from some great interplay, Pol O’Connor put in a cross from the left, Hugh Crowley flicked it across goal with his head and Matti Hodnett got on the end of it to make it 3-0 to Carrigtohill. The fourth goal came when Eoin Garvey broke down the right put in an excellent low cross for Hugh Crowley to knock the ball in to make it 4-0. Overall it was a superb performance by the team especially after bouncing back from a tough loss to Youghal the previous week. The defence, midfield and forwards were all excellent. In the end the man of the match could have went to anyone on the team but it went to a well deserved Cal Flavin for pulling off some fine saves to keep a clean sheet and executing on everything that had been worked on in training such as quick short kickouts and finding players with the long kickouts.
