Carrigtwohill United – 5
Mallow Town – 1
A Morgan Foley hattrick sent Carrigtwohill United on their way to claim victory in their opening fixture of the CSL season. The home side had to come from behind after Mallow took the lead from the penalty spot on 5 minutes. Chances fell to Rian Thornhill, Kyle Kidney and Roan O’Keeffe all before the water break but when play resumed United blitzed the visitors in a 10 minute spell.
Foley headed home from a Thornhill corner to equalise and then Thornhill himself put Carrigtwohill ahead with a well taken goal from the right of the box. Foley then repeated the trick when he headed in O’Keeffe’s corner and O Keeffe tucked away a penalty just before halftime to give the home side a well deserved 4-1 lead.
New signings Dominik Juric, James Lambe and Rayhan Soumaila put in solid performances on their debuts and are ones to watch out for the season ahead. Carrigtwohill continued to dominate in the 2nd half and a reshuffle in the Mallow defence couldn’t stem the flow as the home side poured forward in search of more goals. Captain Sean Og Madden went on a run out of defence and a Town player had to foul him on the edge of the box to halt his progress, the free kick was left to Foley and he made no mistake curling a beauty into the top left hand corner to claim the match ball.
Thornhill (crossbar) and Soumaila both came close late on but Carrigtwohill would have to settle for 5-1!
Best for the home side were Osas Aghedo, Evan O’Regan O’Connor and Roan O’Keeffe but man of the match goes to hattrick hero Morgan Foley ⚽️⚽️⚽️
