Under-14 CSL Div1 at Ballyadam
Carrigtwohill United – 1
Avondale United – 1
Carrigtwohill United welcomed Avondale United to a glorious Ballyadam in their final home game of the season this Sunday lunchtime.
The home side started well and the midfield trio of Foley, O’Keeffe and Aghedo set the tempo with some nice interplay to dominate the ball and supply the forward line of Thornhill, Kidney and Eddins. The message was clear early on as Carrigtwohill tested the Avondale keeper at every opportunity. Any threat from the visitors was more direct but a solid defence of Barry, Madden, Nsengiyumva and O’Regan O’Connor had things under control and Adam Lee in goal had a quiet first half.
The opening goal came from the spot on 25 minutes after O’Keeffe was fouled in the box. With O’Regan O’Connor on penalty duty he confidently stroked the ball home to open his account for the season and was unlucky not to double his tally 5 minutes later when he hit the crossbar from distance, 1-0 at the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Carrigtwohill playing well but at 1-0 the door was always open for the visitors to get back in the game and they took their chance on 51 minutes. A lose ball in midfield found its way forward and the Avondale striker rolled it beyond Adam Lee and into the far corner. The momentum was now with the visitors as some of the Carrig players looked a bit leggy in the final stages but it would finish honours even.
Best for Carrigtwohill were Osas Aghedo, Kyle Kidney and Roan O Keeffe but man of the match goes to Morgan Foley for his excellent control in the middle of the park and his ‘never say die’ attitude. Well done all.
Next up is an away trip to Riverstown Friday evening before the final game of the league campaign in Mayfield.
