Carrigtwohill United – 1
Lakewood – 2
Scorer : Jerry O’Donovan
Carrigtwohill Under-12’A’s commenced their first home league match of the season with a great display against Lakewood. From the very beginning of this close match Carrigtwohill showed some great teamwork with nice link up play throughout the field.
The defence of Alan O’ Brien, Zach Greene and Evan Foley were very solid and well in command in the first half. The midfielders linked up well with our attacking two of Alex Kemik and Luke Guerin, who were a constant thorn in the side of the Lakewood defence, creating many chances throughout the first 15 mins.
The breakthrough came midway through the half when Darragh Culley won the ball in midfield and following a great run up the left wing passed it off to Alex Kimek who crossed for Jerry O’ Donovan to finish with a first time shot into the roof of the net.
Spurred on by the tireless work of Gary Og Horgan in midfield and the strong defence, Carrigtwohill continued to create chances, with Tunde Karim finding Ben Joyce who made some great runs into attacking positions.
Carrigtwohill again started the second half strongly, with a solid defence linking up well with the 3 midfielders. The team created a number of chances with Dylan Joyce showing some excellent ball control to set up attacks. As the half moved on Lakewood started to create chances, and after a string of excellent saves by the man of the match Noel O’ Donovan, Lakewood eventually got the breakthrough, followed by the winner a few minutes later.
Again the lads did not give up and created a number of chances with some attacking football from Sean Kenneally and Dylan Joyce. Unfortunately, luck was not with them on the day but overall the lads should be very proud of their performance and bring it onto the next league game.
Player of the Match: Noel O’ Donovan
