Under-16 Friendly

7th August 2022 at Ballyadam

Carrigtwohill Under-16’s open their season preparation in a bizarre style hosting the current league champions and local cup champions in a friendly match in Ballyadam. A well-deserved guard of honour was offered to our visitors for their wonderful achievements plus travelling all the way from Mallow to Carrigtwohill.

Missing 5 starters due to holidays, it was written all over the walls that Carrigtwohill would be walloped by what no-one would doubt the quality all round that Mallow Town has. Credit to our lads they spread around passes and kept possession holding their own for more than 25mins. Four of the 6 players called up from second team started the match with Cillian Murphy in goals proving to be very effective in goals. Rory Dolan and Alex Kingston were playing alongside each other on the left side of midfield and it was a joy to watch a combination of positional discipline and lovely first touches from Rory Dolan whilst being complimented by the industrious Alex Kingston on his left.

Rollie and Leroy were always a threat whenever in limited possession where Rollie was playing a lone striker role with Leroy dictating the tempo of the midfield behind him in a 4-4-1-1 formation, but occasionally bursting forward. It was a game that despite missing 5 of the regular starters the high performers were visibly on top of their game. As always Carrigtwohill got their solitary goal of the day from their dependable combination when this time it was a reverse of their famous end of last season win against Corinthians. When we went a goal down a switch saw Leroy moving up top with Rollie playing behind him. Soon enough Rollie made a solo run on the right out pacing few defenders before finding Leroy who finished well for a deserved equalizer.

Despite finishing on a losing side this makeshift team that has only trained for a week made the club proud playing against a fit champions who have 3 weeks intensive preseason on their belt. Of notable contribution on the day was gutsy defending from Colm Harte in defence , some composure, skill and ball distribution in a number 10 role from Leroy and ever threatening runs from Rollie in advanced positions one of which saw the two striking partnership understanding break the solid Mallow Town defence.

Thanks to A team players and management for making this day a joy to all.
