Under-16 CSL Div 3 at Lakewood

Lakewood A – 0

Carrigtwohill United – 5

Carrigtwohill Under-16’s made the short trip to Ballincollig to play Lakewood Athletic A in their latest league game after the Christmas break. Carrigtwohill started the game well with the midfield pairing of Colm and Amany controlling the centre of the pitch helping the away team to gain a foothold in the game and allowing strikers Rollie and Leroy to test the Lakewood defence.

Carrigtwohill took a deserved lead a half hour into the game when a great move which started in backline by Robbie playing the ball to midfielder Colm who played a perfect ball through the Lakewood defence for Rollie to finish expertly past the advancing goalie.

Now playing some lovely football it wasn’t long before the 2nd goal arrived when again Rollie was put through by Paul and again raced away from his marker to beat the goalie at his near post with another clinical finish.

Midfielder Colm got on the score sheet minutes later after Charlie made a great run down the wing and crossed for the inrushing midfielder to finish past the helpless keeper. 3-0 at half time lead was no more than the lads deserved and now it was all about concentration and not letting the home team back into the game.

The lads responded well in the second half with goalie on the day Ethan determined to keep his clean sheet intact and centre half pairing Robbie and Jayden repelling all Lakewood attacks it was Carrigtwohill who scored the 4th goal when Charlie made a great run down the right wing and Paul with a brilliant curling finish to the opposite corner of the net gave the goalie no chance.

There was still time for Rollie to get his hat trick on the day when this time he somehow managed to flick the ball past the goalie when the chance looked gone.

A brilliant performance today from a squad shorn of 5 regulars due to covid.

Player of the game goes jointly to hat trick hero Rollie who showed his class with 3 great goals and Amany in midfield (Carrig’s own Ngole Kante) whose tigerish tackling in midfield gave the team a foothold on the game from the first minute.
