Division 2 v Glenthorn Celtic B in Glenthorn Park on Sunday 16th August 2015
Glenthorn Celtic B 0 Carrigtwohill United 2
Scores – Shay Omoniyi, Chris Horgan.
We had a great start to life in Division 2 with an excellent win away to a very good Glenthorn side on Sunday morning. The Glenthorn Park surface was perfect for good football and both sides contributed to an excellent game. Carrig set the tempo early on and with Chris Horgan getting forward from right back at every opportunity we began to create chances. The best chance of the 1st half fell to Brendan Horgan after some great approach play but the Glenthorn keeper produced a top class save. Brendan and Shay Omoniyi had a number of good chances but could not work the keeper more and it stayed 0-0 until half time.
Carrig started the 2nd half well and started to get on top. The 1st goal came on 55mins when Tom O’Shea played Brendan Horgan in. His effort was saved by the Glenthorn keeper but the ball fell kindly to Shay Omoniyi who tucked it away well. Glenthorn fought back but Davy Barry and Ian Kenny were excellent at the back. Chris Horgan continued to bomb forward and got his reward after 65mins when, from a Glenthorn attack, Shay Omoniyi broke down the left and squared the ball to Chris at the back post to finish high into the net for 2-0. Carrig were reduced to 10 men soon after but continued to battle and should have gone 3 up when Brendan Horgan was put through 1-on-1 with the keeper who saved well. Overall a great 3 points to start the season.
