League Cup v Blarney United A in O’Shea Park on Sunday 20th August 2017
Blarney United A 2 Carrigtwohill United 4
Scores: Zack Casagranda 2, Oskar Janke, Jack Horgan.

Carrig advanced to the 3rd round of the league cup with another great performance. Carrig had only played 2 days previous and faced a fresher Blarney Utd.

Carrig started better and looked more solid and were threatening with Zack Casagranda’s running strength causing Blarney problems. Carrig failed to convert the few chances that fell their way and were punished when Blarney took a surprising lead. Blarney upped their game after the goal and doubled their lead soon after. 2 nil at half time.

Carrig responded brilliantly in the second half though, and showed a real desire to get back in the game. Zack got the first from a corner with 25mins left, Carrig sensed they could get back in the game and were now dominant. We created all the chances and equalised when Oskar Janke slammed home after a rebound from the Blarney keeper. Carrig should have wrapped the game up in normal time but failed to convert one of the many chances.

Extra time had to be played and with 5 mins in the first period, Zack who switched wings came inside an unleashed a 25yard screamer which gave the impressive Blarney keeper no chance. Carrig wrapped the game up when skipper Jack Horgsn scored another cracker with just minutes remaining from the edge of the box.

A great start to the season for the lads where they showed great heart and unbelievable work rate.

Player of the Match; David Folasade.
