Under-14 CSL Div 1

6th November 2022 at Ballyadam Park

Carrigtwohill United – 4

Innisvilla – 4

Carrigtwohill were up against Innishvilla on Sunda. It was going to be a tough fixture because Innishvilla had already beaten Carrigtwohill 4-1 on their ground just a few weeks earlier. The conditions were wet and soft and for a lot of the weekend it was touch and go whether this fixture would go ahead due to the recent wet weather.

The match started off tense with each team trying to gain the upper hand. It was Innishvilla who got on the score sheet first with a well taken goal. This did not phase the Carrigtwohill team and they took the game to Innishvilla from the restart. There was some great interplay between the lads as they created chances on the Innishvilla goal. Cathal Doyle who was playing as a lone striker up front was full of running and was pulled down outside the box. The resulting free was taken by Sean Guiney and who produced an exquisite free kick that the keeper had no chance of getting. It was a real end to end match and Innishvilla soon got another goal to go 2-1 up. As the minutes ticked down to the end of the first half Carrigtwohill won another free kick just beyond the half way line. Dan Guiney launched a powerful free kick from distance that the Innishvilla keeper could only parry and the ever-alert Pol O Connor smashed the ball home to make it 2-2 at half time.

At the start of the second half Carrigtwohill pressed hard right from the outset, with just 4 minutes gone in the second half Sean Guiney scored another spectacular goal with a powerful long range shot to put Carrigtwohill 3-2 up. To the credit of Innishvilla they managed to pull another goal back to draw level. Carrigtwohill were having the better of the second half and there were tough battles going on in midfield where Matti Hodnett and Pol O Connor were equal to the challenge. Sean Guiney and Eoin Garvey were causing all sorts of problem for the Innishvilla defence down the wings. Hugh Crowley was desperately unlucky when he saw one of his efforts come off the crossbar.

With 15 mins left, Pol O Connor let fly with a great effort, it beat the keeper but came back on play off the post where Eoin Garvey pounced on the ball to put Carrigtohill 4-3 up.

It looked as if Carrigtwohill were going to see out the final 15 mins of the match and collect all 3 point when Innishvilla scored in the last 30 seconds of the game. It was desperately disappointing for Carrigtwohill but it was a superb effort and the coaches were extremely proud of the performance of the entire team.
