Castleview – 2

Carrigtwohill United – 1

23rd Nov 2019 at Castleview

Carrigtwohill United travelled away to Castleview for an early morning fixture on a cold and wet morning, one of the very few games to be played on grass this weekend.

The lads have had a bad run lately with results not going their way and coming to Castleview, who are top of Division 1 having only lost one game all season, was always going to be tough.

Carrigtwohill started as if they had won all their games so far, with some great pressure and got within striking distance early on. The game flowed nicely with both teams giving it all.

Castleview were always going to be a threat going forward and after 22min they broke down the right side and a clean strike wrong footed the Carrigtwohill keeper to give them the opening goal. One of the few times the back 4 got caught out all day.

A few minutes later, a great ball from midfield player Rollie put left winger Alex Kingston through on goal, who struck the ball from 15yrds but ended up in the keeper’s hands.

So, one down at the break although the first half gave Carrigtwohill the belief that they can give any team a good game in this division.

Carrigtwohill started the second half strongly, with Amany playing a great defensive role in midfield, stopping any threat around the 18yrd box where shots from distance can be dangerous at this age group.

After a few changes, the away side continued to put pressure on Castleview, but again their quality and strength on the ball showed when a player broke through the Carrigtwohill defence and slotted a second goal past our heroic keeper Sebastian. 2 nil down after 40min played.

The score didn’t reflect the effort Carrigtwohill were putting in, but after 50min Ethan won a ball in the middle and played a nice little ball to Rollie who beat two players and poked the ball past their keeper to make it 2-1 with 10min to go.

A few minutes later, a Carrigtwohill player was blatantly fouled in the area, but the referee did not award a penalty so the chance of a draw was gone.

The team needed a good performance and they certainly had that.
