Under – 18

5th January

Carrigtwohill – 1

Rockmount – 3

Sean William Memorial Trophy

After the Christmas excesses, it was back to business for the Carrigtwohill Under-18’s and a home Cup tie to start with in 2019 against Rockmount. Both sides had already played in the league in last August with Carrigtwohill coming out on top 4-3 in a seven goal thriller.

The match started at a frantic pace and the score was 1-1 after just 5 minutes. After some good work in midfield, David Rooney found some space on the right wing and struck a superb shot into the top left corner of the net from an acute angle.

However, the lead did not last long when the Carrigtwohill back line were unable to deal with a long ball and the Rockmount striker managed to wriggle free with the ball and strike an unstoppable shot to tie up the score.

Carrigtwohill had the lions share of the territory in the first half with good work being done in midfield by Ethan Harkin-Daly especially but the whitechurch outfit were proving had to break down.

Yemi  came in at half-time and Carrigtwohill continued to push but suffered a blow after 10 minutes of the second half when Rockmount scored a header directly from a corner.

Good work throughout the pitch was pushing the visitors back onto their 18 yard line. Jack Horgan had a superb match with probing runs up the left wing and Zak Casagranda was a constant threat up front but the pressure was not yielding clear cut chances.

In true Cup fashion, Carrigtwohill pushed a defender up the pitch in search of the equaliser leaving just 3 defenders and Rockmount took advantage with a break up the left wing and a clever finish from the corner of the penalty box.

An exciting match but a disappointing result for the home team who had put in a great effort
