Leonard Gould Cup v Everton in Ballyadam Park on Tuesday 4th June 2013

Carrigtwohill United 3 Everton 1

Scorers - Liam Gosnell 2, Darragh McCann.

Carrigtwohill - inspired by 2 goals from Liam Gosnell - overcame Everton to reach the semi finals of the U14 Leonard Gould Cup at Ballyadam on Tuesday evening. Everton started the game the brighter of the two sides and had a couple of efforts on goal before Carrig got a grip on the game. Kudsai Mhondiwa in Carrig's goal made a couple of good saves in the first 10 minutes which helped to settle the home defence and it was from the back that many of Carrig's best moves started. The opening goal came after 23 minutes, a well delivered pass from Brendan Twomey put Liam Gosnell through on goal and his powerful shot was too strong Everton's keeper. It was a very close game up to half time with both sides playing some great football but Carrig got the all important second goal 2 minutes before the break. Another good move down the left wing forced a corner for Carrig and Liam Gosnell's cross was volleyed to the net by Darragh McCann to put Carrig in control of the game by half time.

Carrigtwohill not happy with a 2 goal advantage started the second half in great style and brought the best out of Everton's keeper on a few occasions. Gosnell, Manning and Twomey all came close to making it 3-0 to the home side but they couldn't find a way past the visitor's keeper. Carrig mounted attack after attack and on 55 minutes a fine pass from Philip Dorgan set Liam Gosnell up to score his second goal of the game to make it 3-0. With 2 minutes to go Everton scored a consolation goal from a tap in after a quickly taken free kick. This was another great team performance by Carrig and they were best served on the night by Aaron Pender, Liam Gosnell, Brendan Twomey and Gary O'Brien.

Scorers - Liam Gosnell 2, Brendan Twomey, David Grimes.

Carrigtwohill march on to the quarter finals of the U14 Leonard Gould Cup after a great away win over Carrigaline on Wednesday evening. After 10 minutes Liam Gosnell hit the crossbar from a free and 5 minutes later he had Carrig level after Billy Manning set him up for a well taken goal. As the game went on Carrig got the better of the home team and Carrigaline can thank their defence and keeper for keeping the sides level.

In the next 10 minute spell Carrig added 2 more goals and looked in control of the game. League v Avondale United A in Beaumont Park on Sunday 26th May 2013

Avondale United A 2 Carrigtwohill United 1

Scorer - Ben O'Leary.

Carrigtwohill travelled to Beaumount Park on Sunday morning and were on the wrong side of a 2-1 score . The home side created the best of the early chances but some great defending by Carrig kept them out. Carrig had their first chance after 10 minutes when Philip Dorgan came close with a shot from the edge of the box. The game continued from end to end for the rest of the first half with both sides creating good openings but the score remained 0-0 at the break with both defences coming out on top.

Carrig started brightly in the second half and had the home defence scrambling for cover from the kick off but it was Avondale who took the lead against the run of play with a speculative shot from out the field. Carrig mounted attack after attack in an effort to claw back a goal and dominated the second half. On 45 minutes Philip Dorgan had the ball in the net and 5 minutes later Gary O'Brien scored another perfectly good goal but amasingly the ref disallowed both goals. Dispite this set back Carrig threw everything at the Avondale goal and continued to battle on in search of an equaliser. Carrig's captain Ben O'Leary leading by example had a great game in midfield and was unlucky with a good effort after 50 minutes. For all their good work Carrig were 2 down when Avondale scored after the visitors failed to deal with a corner. Carrig camped in Avondale's half for the rest of the match and the threatened goal came when Ben O'Leary scored direct from a corner. Carrig worked tirelessly for a second goal but failed to nab an equaliser.

In the next 15 minutes Carrig created plenty of chances and they should have added 3 goals in this passage of play. Having seen so many chances pass them by Carrig upped the pressure with Brendan Twomey scoring a great header from a Liam Gosnell corner. Then Brendan picked out Billy Manning with a great cross field pass and his shot from the edge of the box gave the keeper no chance to make it 4-0 in Carrig's favour on the stroke of half time.

Carrig continued to dominate after the interval and were 5-0 up after 40 minutes. Ben O'Leary broke down the left cut inside the defender and hammered a great low shot to the corner of the net. To their credit Richmond didn't give up the fight and came close with a couple of efforts but were denuded by some great defending by Aaron Pender, Kevin Coady  and John Hyde. 5-0 became 6-0 when Gary O'Brien lobbed the keeper from outside the box with a great shot. League v Leeds in Ballyadam Park on Friday 10th May 2013

Carrigtwohill United 7 Leeds 0

Scorers - Billy Manning 2, Philip Dorgan 2, Liam Gosnell, Brendan Twomey, Darragh McCann.

Carrigtwohill U14's were crowned DIVISION 5 CHAMPIONS on Friday night after a very comfortable 7 - 0 win over fierce rivals Leeds at Ballyadam. It was a different story when the two sides met before Christmas and Carrig came away with a hard earned  2-1 win. Carrig started the game knowing that a draw would guarantee them the league and from the first whistle the lads took control of the game and showed  their dominance when they scored after only four minutes. A well taken Liam Gosnell corner was powerfully headed to the net by Billy Manning. Unseasonably wintery and windy conditions failed to deter Carrig from producing great football and but for some last ditch tackles and great goalkeeping by Leeds they would have been well ahead. After 20 minutes Darragh McCann hit the crossbar with a great shot but Carrig had to wait until the 34th minute to score their second goal. John Hyde picked the ball up in mid field and passed to Billy Manning to score his second goal of the match as the ref blew for half time.

Having played with a strong wind in the first half Carrig came out very determined in the second half. The lads continued to keep the ball on the ground and were rewarded when Philip Dorgan opened the scoring in the second half to make it 3-0. The rain eased off but Carrig remained relentless and went 4-0 up after 40 minutes when Liam Gosnell made the most of some poor Leeds defending to curl the ball past the stranded Leeds keeper. Carrig were 5-0 up when the Leeds keeper spilled the ball from another Liam Gosnell shot and Philip Dorgan slipped in to side foot the ball to the net for his second goal. Then after another great passage of play James Doyle crossed the ball for Brendan Twomey to make it 6-0. As the game was winding down Darragh McCann wrapped up a great evening for Carrig by grabbing a 7th goal 2 minutes from time. This was another great team performance and as it has been all season the whole panel played their part in a great win. Congratulations lads on winning the league you have been a credit to yourselves and your club.

Carrigtwohill edged closer to claiming the title. Carrig are just one win from claiming the U14 division 5 league title after a convincing 8 - 1 win over local rivals Midleton on Tuesday evening at Ballyadam. Midleton started the better of the two sides and after a mix up in the home defence were a goal up after 10 minutes. This was the spur Carrig needed and they were level 3 minutes later. Aaron Pender burst out of defence and hit a great cross field pass to Liam Gosnell who scored with a well placed shot. Carrig piled on the pressure and were 2-1 up when Philip Dorgan scored a great volley from a Liam Gosnell corner. Carrig's mid-field took control of the game with Billy Manning in the centre of the park at the hub of his sides best attacking moves. We went 3-1 up when Liam Gosnell's shot was saved and deflected to the net by one of one of Midleton's defenders. Then after a great passing move from midfield he  scored his second goal of the game to make it 4-1. Liam had an excellent game on the left side of midfield and his shot off the crossbar was headed home by Philip Dorgan for his second goal. Just before half time Philip passed to David Grimes on the edge of the box to score Carrigs sixth goal.

Midleton struggled to deal with a rampant Carrig midfield in the first half and the second half was no different. Carrig had most of the ball but with the game won we're wasteful with a few chances. 15 minutes into the second half Gary O'Brien scored a great goal with another one of his long range shots. Then James Doyle came close with a shot from the edge of the box before Brendan Twomey hammered a close range shot to the net to make it 8-1. On the day the stand out players for Carrigtwohill were Billy Manning, Liam Gosnell, Philip Dorgan and Aaron Pender.

League v Cobh Ramblers United in Pat O'Brien Park on Saturday 4th May 2013

Cobh Ramblers 0 Carrigtwohill United 1

Scorer - David Grimes.

Carrig u14's were on the road again on Saturday morning in this top of the table match with Cobh Ramblers. This was always going to be a close game and both sides played their part in a great game. Carrig had the better of the early play and showed why they are top of the league, their passing was accurate and their movement off the ball was great. The lads got the lead they deserved after ten minutes. Billy Manning got the ball in mid field and passed to Philip Dorgan he played the ball to David Grimes on the wing who cut inside a defender and lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box for a great goal. Carrig defended their lead well with Aaron Pender, Darragh McCann, Gary O 'Brien and Kevin Coady all doing a great job limiting Cobh to just two shots in the first half.

Both sides started the second half with real intent and for the first ten minutes the game could have been won by either team. But it was Carrig who started to dominate with Brendan Twomey playing well on the wing Cobh's keeper had to be at his best to deny him twice. Ben O 'Leary in Carrig's goal had little to do for most of the game but with ten minutes to go made a great save to keep his team in front. This was a great team performance.

Twenty minutes into the game Glounthaune got a lucky goal but their lead was short lived when John Hyde raced down the wing and scored a great goal with a shot from the side line.

Carrig started the second half as they had finished the first in control of the game. Gary O'Brien was at the centre of every good move in midfield and was rewarded for his efforts when he scored a screamer of a goal from 30 yards out the field to make it 3 - 2 to Carrig. Carrig should have finished the game off and had a couple of chances to but Glounthaune's keeper did well to keep them out. Then with five minutes to go the home side got a goal against the run of play to level the game at 3 - 3.

Just a few mins more Brendan got another from good ball in by Dylan. 2 mins later Philip scored from good word from Dylan and Brendan with Brendan getting his hat trick a few mins later. Billy then hit cross bar on 25 min mark just a min later Philip had a bicycle kick put away by David. On half hour mark Brendan had his fourth goal by good work from mid field lads.

Just before half time from a corner from Dylan had Darragh getting on score board and then just on brink of half time for home team Brendan got a lovely back healed goal. We started quickly again with Dylan getting a nice goal after 5 mins. On 15 min mark we got penalty which Billy put away easily 5 mins later Dylan put in nice ball to Darragh to put us 13 nil up. With no option ref called game with 15 mins left ,must say again a great performance from all but with great overall game play from Dylan from start to finish had us easily winners on day.

Leonard Gould Cup v Riverstown A in Eastcliffe on Tuesday 23rd April
Riverstown A 1 Carrigtwohill United 4 AET

Scorer - Philip Dorgan, Brendan Twomey 2,  Liam Gosnell.

Another great result for the boys tonight with a great over all team performance. We were lively from start with a couple of chances but to go down 1 nil from an OG. We started second half the same when Philip evened up the game and we were unlucky not to win game in normal time when we had 2 goals disallowed for being offside which had us having to go into extra time.

We started again quite quickly and had us 1 up when Brenden got his first  goal of game to see out first half of extra time. Second half of extra time we again looked good and with 2 quick goals from Liam and Brenden had us see out game easily enough with some great performance's from all the team but most of all from Sean Mackey and Billy Manning have us looking forward to next round.

Scorers - Dylan McCann,  Liam Gosnell 2.

Carrigtwohill Under 14s had a great start to their cup campaign wit a 3-1 win over Mallow United on Saturday in Gobnait's Park. Even with Mallow being a division above, our boys had little trouble with getting past them. The game started off slowly with both sides being cautious, our only chance after ten minutes, with Liam Gosnell's shot being saved by Mallow's keeper. Our back line consisting of Darragh McCann, Aaron Pender, Kevin Cody and Gary O'Brien were really strong and had no trouble clearing every ball that came their way. With a few good runs from the forward line of Philip Dorgan and James Doyle, kept the Mallow defenders on their toes. The game stayed level till the 30th minute when Dylan McCann came running forward from midfield to get a great goal from 25 yards out which had us up at half time.

Substitute Sean Mackey came on at half time, along with a few position changes had us soon in control, with Liam Gosnell scoring a goal after 2 mins. A good goal after ten minutes by Mallow had them back in the game. A strong performance of our mid fielders Billy Manning, John Hyde, Dylan McCann and Liam Gosnell meant we were under little pressure. After a few good saves by our keeper, Ben O'Leary, Carrig were looking good for the win. We were unlucky not to get another goal when Gary O'Brien just missed a volley shot. Aaron Pender made some great defensive tactles to keep the Mallow attackers at bay. Substitute Shane O'Hanlon came on and made a few good runs. A good goal from Liam Gosnell, who took on a few players to lob the keeper wrapped up the game for us. A good performance by all. Now the team can look forward to the next round of the cup.

Dylan McCann won the ball from the kick-off and put another great pass over the top to put Liam Gosnell one on one with the keeper to score his second goal. A neat one two with John Hyde put Brendan Twomey through and the Douglas keeper made a good save from his shot but Twomey followed up to head home the rebound. Douglas Hall had no answer to the attacking play from Carrig and just before half-time Gosnell raced down the left wing and passed for Philip Dorgan to score at the back post and make it 8 for Carrig at the break.

Carrig's second goal followed 5 minutes later when Liam Gosnell split the Blarney defence with a pass for Brendan Twomey to score. Then Liam got on the score sheet himself when he capped a fine run from midfield with a low drive to the corner of the net. The lads continued to push forward with Gosnell and Twomey terrorising the Blarney defence. Dylan McCann and Philip Dorgan were doing well up front and McCann was unlucky with a close range shot. Then just before half time Billy Manning scored with a great header to make it 4-0.

Carrigtwohill were 5 up 2 minutes into the second half when Liam Gosnell took off down the line and had his shot saved for Philip Dorgan to score. Then in a carbon copy of their second goal Liam Gosnell put Brendan Twomey through to score his second and Carrig's seventh goal. Gary O'Brien had a great game in defence and with 5 minutes to go burst up the wing and passed to Brendan Twomey who crossed the ball for David Grimes to score at the back post. League v Leeds in Leeds Park on Sunday 18th November
Leeds 1 Carrigtwohill United 2

Scorers - Liam Gosnell, Darragh McCann

Carrigtwohill recorded their fifth win in the league against Leeds A at Leeds Park on Sunday afternoon. Carrig overcame the challenge of Leeds in this top of the table action packed contest. In a relatively tight first half Leeds created the best chances and were a goal to the good after 20minutes. Carrig were strong in defence and were best served by Kevin Coady and Gary O'Brian on the wings clearing everything that came their way. Arron Pender and Darragh McCann were as usual solid at the centre of defence and started many a good move forward. Ben O'Leary could count himself unlucky to have had to pick the ball out of his net after two fine saves and some great clearances from the edge of his box.

There was no let upon excitement in the second half. Carrig started well and after 5mins Liam Gosnell had his team level with a well taken goal from outside the box. The momentum was now with Carrig and they were relentless in their search for a second goal. John Hyde, David Grimes and Billy Manning were in control in midfield setting up some great chances for Philip Dorgan and Brendan Twomey in attack. Philip Dorgan came close with a shot from the edge of the box and again 2mins later hit the bar after a fine cross from Billy Manning. Brendan Twomey was a constant threat up front and he and Dorgan kept the Leeds keeper busy. Liam Gosnell came close with two free kicks before putting in a perfect corner for Darragh McCann to hammer into the net with 6mins to go. The Carrig lads showed great spirit to come from a goal down away from home and were worth their win. Arron Pender had a classy game in defence, Bill Manning bossed midfield while Liam Gosnell was a threat every time he got the ball.

League v Glounthaune United in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 4th November
Carrigtwohill United 4 Glounthaune United 2

Scorers - Kevin Coady, Darragh Mc Cann, Brendan Twomey 2

A great performance from Carrigtwohill saw them run out 4-2 winners in a top of the table clash against Glounthaune United. Carrig started the game the better of the two sides but they struggled to break down a dogged Glounthaune defence and had to wait until the 20 min for their first score. Liam Gosnell hit a great crossfield pass for Kevin Coady to run on to and slot the ball passed the keeper to put Carrig one up. However Carrig didn't have it their own way and the midfield of John Hyde, David Grimes, Brendan Twomey and Liam Gosnell had to be on their toes against a very good Glounthaune side. Liam Gosnell was playing well on the left and hit another great pass for Brendan Twomey to score Carrig's second just before half time.

Glounthaune started the second half with a new energy and five minutes after the restart had the ball in the Carrig net. Ben O'Leary made a great save from a long ball in but was not to blame for the follow up. Carrig were up against it now as Glounthaune pushed for an equaliser and it came from a corner after a mix up in the Carrig defence. At 2-2 the game was getting away from Carrig, Shane O'Hanlon and James Doyle were introduced and played well up front with Philip Dorgan. A new look defence of Gary O'Brien, Billy Manning, Darragh McCann and Sean Mackey dug deep and cleared plenty of good ball to the forward line. Billy and Darragh got forward at every opportunity and this paid off when Darragh hit a sweet volley from a corner to make it 3-2. Carrig were on top now and with 4 minutes remaining the Glounthaune keeper let the ball through his hands for Brendan Twomey to tap in and make sure of the points. Carrig needed to be at their best to beat Glounthaune to keep their 100% start to the season.

Kevin Cody and James Doyle came on at half time and continued to push forward at every chance. Five minutes into the second half a Carrigalline defender put the ball into his own net from a well hit Liam Gosnell corner. Then Liam made it 10-1 with another long range shot. John Hyde then scored a screamer from out the field to make it 12-1.Darragh wasn't finished and scored his fourth goal 2 minutes later. John Hyde scored his hat-trick just before full time to make it 14-1. Ben O'Leary in the Carrigtwohill goal had very little to do but marshalled his defence well making sure they all held position. The defence of Gary O'Brien, Aaron Pender, Darragh McCann and Sean Mackey were solid throughout the game and set up some great forward play. National Cup v Temple United in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 21st October
Carrigtwohill United 3 Temple United 8

Scorers - Philip Dorgan, Billy Manning, Shane O'Hanlon.

Our Under 14 team were at home to Temple United in the National Cup on Sunday morning. Temple showed why they a premier team from the start and had us under pressure early in the game. The Carrig lads got back into the game after a shakey start but were on the back foot again when the Ref allowed a goal stand for Temple when their No.9 was clearly offside. Temple were on top now and scored two quick goals. We pulled one back when Brendan Twomey was fouled on the right wing and Philip Dorgan volleyed John Hyde's free kick to the top corner on half time.

The second half saw Carrig give a better account of themselves. They started to pass the ball better and got at the Temple defence. Brendan Twomey was taken down in the box and Billy Manning scored the penalty. Temple came back at us and scored two more before Shane O'Hanlon scored with ten minutes remaining to make it 6-3 to Temple. Carrig pushed on to try and get another but two counter attacks from Temple had them 8-3 ahead at full time. There were some good performances from the Carrig lads but Temple were just too strong for us.

League v Avondale United A in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 7th October
Carrigtwohill United 7 Avondale United A 0

Scorers - Brendan Twomey 3, Liam Gosnell, Philip Dorgan, Darragh McCann, Dylan McCann.

Carrig u14s played Avondale United A in their first home league game on Sunday morning. We got off to a great start when Liam Gosnell scored after 3 minutes. The lads took control of the game from here and 5 minutes later had the ball in the net again when Brendan Twomey's shot came back off the bar and Philip Dorgan followed up to head the ball in to the top corner. John Hyde and Bill Manning were running the midfield with great passing and link play with the forwards. Brendan Twomey was a constant threat to the Avondale defence and scored his first goal after Philip Dorgan won the ball and played a neat one two with Billy Manning to put him through. The front two of David Grimes and Philip Dorgan held the ball up at every opportunity and kept the defence busy. The Avondale keeper kept his team in the match with two great saves from Brendan Twomey and Philip Dorgan before half time but he could do nothing about Carrig's fourth goal. David Grimes forced a corner on the right and John Hyde put a great ball to the back post for Philip Dorgan to set up Darragh Mc Cann to hit an unstoppable shot from outside the box on the stroke of half time.

The Carrig boys were not as lively at the start of the second half and for the first ten minutes Avondale came back at them. Ben O'Leary had to be sharp off his line to make two good clearances. The defence now had to show their worth Sean Mackey was strong in defence and cleared some great ball while Gary O'Brian was up and down the line all day and forced the keeper to make a great save. In the middle of defence Darragh McCann and Aaron Pender were disciplined through the game controlling the defence but getting forward when the chance was there. Aaron was unlucky to have two clear goals ruled out by the ref. Kevin Coady who had replaced the injured Liam Gosnell early in the first half was busy in midfield and with twenty minutes to go put a great ball through to Bill Manning who put the ball over the defence for Brendan Twomey to run on and score his second goal. Carrig were now dominating the game again David Grimes put Brendan Twomey through and his shot was saved but Dylan McCann ran on to the rebound to score a fine goal. Man of the match Brendan Twomey scored his third goal as the ref blew for full time. This was another great win for the Carrig lads.

League v Midleton A in Knockgriffin on Sunday 16th September
Midleton A 1 Carrigtwohill United 10

Scorers - Liam Gosnell 4, Brendan Twomey 3, Philip Dorgan, Billy Manning, OG.

Our under 14's started the league this weekend with a short trip to Midleton for a 10.30 kick off at Knockgriffin. Carrig were the stroner team from the start and were 1 up after 5 minutes when Liam Gosnell scored from the edge of the box. We went 2 up after David Grimes was taken down in the box and Billy Manning scored the penalty. Then Liam Gosnell scored a wonder goal from a free kick from wide out on the left. Midleton then conceeded an own goal after more good pressure from Carrig. Brendan Twomey got on the score sheet with a good tap in after the Mildeton goalie made a good save. Liam Gosnell scored his hat-trick straight from a corner. The first half was all about Carrig going forward, but Midleton broke doen the field and were awarded a free on the edge of the box. Ben O'Leary in the Carrig goal made a great save from the free but poor defending let Midleton in the score. Then Philip Dorgan hit a volley from just inside the box to put Carrig 7-1 up as the Ref blew for half time.

The second half had Carrig facing a strong wind and our defence had to be on their toes. Midleton never looked like scoring in the second half with Sean Mackey making some good clearances and Gary O'Brien always a threat going helping the attack with some great crosses. Kevin Coady and Darragh McCann were rock solid in defence clearing anything that came their way. James Doyle came on for Sean Mackey and was unlucky with 2 good chances. Brendan Twomey scored his second after another good move from midfiels where Billy Manning and John Hyde were in control for the whole game. Liam Gosnell scored his fourth with ten minutes to go and Brendan Twomey got his hat-trick just before the end. This was a very good win for Carrig on their first league outing.
