Premier A 2012/13 Reports

League v Kanturk in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 25th May 2013
Carrigtwohill United 5 Kanturk 1

Scorers - Derek Delea, Chris Casey 2, Davy Barry, Darren Sylvester.

Carrigs final game of the season was played today in perfect conditions on a superb pitch, both teams were missing a lot of players, but it didn't affect Carrigtwohill. Carrig were dominant in the opening half hour where we got a 3 goal lead, the opener was a penalty by Derek Delea after he was fouled himself. Chris Casey doubled the lead when a great through ball from Delea saw Casey outpace the Kanturk full back and then finished superbly. The third came from Davy Barry after a lovely passing build up saw the full back ram home after a lay off from Martin Carroll. Darren Sylvester made it 4 on 40mins with a neat finish from close range. Kanturk pulled one back on the stroke of half time with a quality finish from their striker.

The second half was more of the same where Carrig were playing some good football and when Casey made it 5 on 60mins, the ref blew the final whistle. A good end to the season for the lads.

League v Grattan United in Murphy's Farm on Saturday 11th May 2013
Grattan United 1 Carrigtwohill United 4

Scorers - John Magner 2, Derek Delea, Chris Casey.

Carrig produced a very good performance today away to Grattan, Carrig started the game very strongly and were passing the ball very well, All players looked very sharp and it was only a matter of time before we got the breakthrough, it came on 15 mins from a Alan Stapleton corner, and it was finished with a neat headed finish by John Magner. It was 2 after 22mins when Derek Delea was taken down for a penalty, Delea scored from the spot to double Carrigs lead. Another great break got Carrigs third after 35 mins when Delea gave Magner the simplest of finishes with an unselfish pass inside the box. 3 nil at half time.

Second half Grattan got more into the game and Carrig weren\'t as dominant, but as Grattan pushed to get back in the game Chris Casey broke from the halfway line and took the ball in himself and finished superbly against the impressive Grattan stopper. The game was played out comfortably by Carrig after that goal, but there was still time for Grattan to score a spectacular consolation, when the veteran Adrian McDonnell skipped out of defence Beckenbaur like, only for him to play a pass directly to the Grattan midfielder who struck the ball from 35 yards and lobbed the Carrig keeper.

League v Blackstone Rovers in Fairfield on Saturday 4th May 2013
Blackstone Rovers 3 Carrigtwohill United 2

Scorers - Chris Casey, Derek Delea.

Carrig slipped to an unlikely defeat today, but we can have no complaints as Blackstone had more hunger to win this game. Blackstone took a lead after 3 minutes after poor play in the Carrig midfield gave away easy possession.Chris Casey equalised minutes later after a fortunate bounce eluded the Blackstone keeper. The game didn't have much goalmouth action for the remainder of the half as it stayed 1 all at half time.

Second half was much of the same although Carrig were passing the ball better. But it was Blackstone who again took the lead after a long free kick was poorly defended, and the Blackstone striker finished well. Carrig scored straight from the restart when Delea and Casey ran straight through the Blackstone team, Casey had a strike but the keeper could only parry it out to the oncoming Delea to equalise. Blackstone didn't despair and had the lead with 10 mins to go again after Carrig lost possession easily and a through ball left the 2 centre halves flat footed as the Blackstone striker scored his sides winner.

League v Innishvilla A in Knocknacurra, Innshannon on Sunday 28th April 2013
Innishvilla A 2 Carrigtwohill United 1

Scorers - Mick Kenneally.

A massive game for both teams on Sunday, both teams needed a win to keep their hopes of league and promotion alive, Carrig settled quickly and had the best early chance when Alan Stapleton was unlucky not to score when he intervened a weak back pass. Innishvilla came more into it and striker Jack Walsh was giving the Carrig defence a torrid time, all the Innish best play came through him. Innishvilla took the lead on the half hour from a corner from a Walsh powerful header. Carrig had another great chance after a decent break but Chris Caseys effort was tame. 1 nil at half time.

The introduction of Mick Kenneally at half time coupled with a formation change, saw Carrig play a lot better football and looked far more dangerous with 2 strikers, both of whom could have scored with one on one opportunities, Carrig did equalise when Kenneally met a Darren Deasy corner with a superb header giving the Innish keeper no chance. Carrig had their tails up and were passing the ball better and looked the likelier to score, but having said that Innishvilla always looked dangerous and had a few good chances themselves, with the game being so open you always felt one team would knick it, and indeed with 3 mins to go Innishvilla snatched a winner with a superb goal from the centre half who made a late run to the box, Carrig pushed to get back in the game but it proved fruitless as Innishvilla hung on for a big win.

League v Douglas Hall in Ballyadam Park on Tuesday 23rd April 2013
Carrigtwohill United 2 Douglas Hall 2

Scorers - Chris Casey, Derek Delea.

Carrig faced a Douglas Hall team that had just qualified for the Aoh final tonight at Ballyadam, Carrig were looking for their fifth straight league win, but came up against a dogged Douglas side, Douglas set their stall out early by playing a lot of direct football, they got a lot of joy against the Carrig back line with this tactic, the opening goal came from a direct free kick, where keeper Eoghan O'Mahony will feel he could have done better to keep it out as it went in at the side he was covering. Carrig who were not playing well got a penalty shortly afterwards, and Derek Delea scored to draw the sides level, Carrig then took the lead before half time when Chris Casey scored a superb goal from a great ball by Mick Kenneally.  It remained 2-1 at half time to Carrig.

Carrig started the second half on the front foot and had Douglas defending a lot more, but Douglas equalised with a superb strike from their striker that gave the Carrig stopper no chance. The remainder of the game saw Carrig push hard for a winner but couldn't break down a very well organised Douglas defence, the introduction of Mick Sullivan saw Carrig finally pass the ball sharper and with that came the few half chances that came to nothing, the game finished 2 all, overall a disappointing night for Carrigtwohill.

Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Mick Kenneally.

League v Bohemians in Fairfield on Sunday 21st April 2013
Bohemians 0 Carrigtwohill United 5

Scorers - Alan Stapleton 2, Derek Delea 2, Martin Carroll.

Carrig continued their good form with a convincing 5 nil away win at Bohemians today. Carrig had a decent start and had early pressure on the Bohs back line but had no clear chances of note, Carrig did take the lead after 15mins when Alan Stapleton smashed home a Chris Casey pass. The game was even for the remainder of the half but Carrig always looked likely to add a second and we did on the stroke of half time when Derek Delea was fouled in the box, Delea took and scored the spotter himself, for a 2 nil halftime lead.

Second half was only minutes old when John Magner had an effort cleared off the line, the third goal wasn't long in waiting when Stapleton got his second with a superb finish from the edge of the box. With the Bohs resistance now broken, Carrig looked like they could score at will, Derek Delea was at the heart of everything that was positive in the final third, Carrig should have scored more before Martin Carroll added a fourth, when a ball over the top  was taken by the Carrig striker, he beat one defender and slotted passed the Bohs keeper. Delea added the fifth minutes later, when Carroll pulled a neat pass back to the path of Delea who gave the overworked Bohs keeper no chance with a super strike from the edge of the box.

League v Glen Celtic in Ballyadam Park on Tuesday 16th April 2013
Carrigtwohill United 3 Glen Celtic 1

Scorers - Chris Casey, Derek Delea 2.

Big league game between two promotion rivals, Glen Celtic were short a few key defenders going into the game through suspension which wouldn't have helped their cause, but either way it was a real battle of a game with both midfields working tirelessly to cancel each other, Carrig had the better of the chances in the first half, when after a series of corners had Glen Celtic in trouble but Carrig were denied by what looked like a handball on the line that wasn't seen by the ref. The best chance of the game then fell to Alan Stapleton who timed a great run from midfield and his lobbed effort just bounced wide. Carrig did take the lead when Chris Casey again broke the Glen's offside line and the winger was composed in his finish. 1 nil at half time.

Second half was more of the same, both teams battling all over the pitch, Glen had a few chances from direct free kicks but never threatened the goal. Carrig doubled the lead after a corner when a clearance off the line rebounded to Derek Delea to head home the second. Carrig were in control at this stage and were passing the ball well and always looked dangerous on the break as Glen pushed forward. The Glen pulled one back with 15 mins to go when a ball over the top caught the Carrig defence and the Glen substitute finished well. Glen sensed a point and pushed everything at Carrig, but Mick Kenneally and Michael Hickey at the heart of the Carrig defence were immense and dealt with everything thrown at them, Carrig then sealed the game with 4 mins left when a break from a corner by Alan Stapleton and Chris Casey saw Casey through one on one with the keeper and he easily went passed the keeper, who then decided to take him out, which resulted in a red for the keeper and a penalty for Carrig which Delea made no mistake with to wrap up a valuable 3 pts.

League v Kanturk in Kanturk on Saturday 6th April 2013
Kanturk 0 Carrigtwohill United 1

Scorers - Sean Madden.

Carrig came away from a difficult away fixture against league rivals Kanturk with all 3 points today. This was a big game for both clubs, with a defeat for Carrig would surely have ended their promotion challenge. The pitch was very hard after the dry spell, which made it difficult for any decent football to be played. Both teams worked hard in the first half with little goalmouth action, game was scoreless at half time.

Second half was more of the same with both teams working very hard with again little action in front of goal. Carrig took the lead from a corner when Sean Madden got a flick on Darren Deasy's delivery, it was enough to squeeze passed the Kanturk keeper. Carrig almost doubled their lead moments later but Darren Deasy blazed over with the goal at his mercy. Kanturk pushed for an equaliser but were up against a very well organised defence and hard working midfield, Kanturk did have a great chance to draw level when they had a one on one with Dave Linehan, but the impressive Carrig keeper made an outstanding save. Carrig comfortably saw out the remainder of the game to take a great 3 points away.

League v Leeds in Leeds Park on Sunday 31st March 2013
Leeds 1 Carrigtwohill United 4

Scorers - Steve Davern, Chris Casey, Derek Delea 2.

Carrig got back to winning ways today against a young Leeds side today. Carrig dominated the opening half in terms of possession and chances, but were frustrated by Leeds defence and an in form keeper. Carrig had some glorious chances to take the lead through Mick Kenneally, Alan Stapleton and Chris Casey but all failed to score.

Second half again saw Carrig with plenty of possession but were getting frustrated at not being able to break down Leeds resistance. A formation change and introduction of Steve Davern with 30 minutes to go had the desired effect, with Davern giving Carrig the lead minutes later from a lay off by Derek Delea, with the deadlock broken Chris Casey made it 2 with 20 to go again with a lovely through ball from Delea. Leeds pulled one back with 15 to go after Casey switched off at the back post. With Leeds pushing on looking for an equaliser, they left gaps at the back which was exploited twice in minutes, with both goals being scored by man of the match Delea. Carrig saw out the remainder of the game to win 4-1.

League v Innishvilla in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 16th March 2013
Carrigtwohill United 2 Innishvilla 2

Scorers - Leonard Healy, Alan Stapleton.

Today was massive league game against rivals Innishvilla. The game finished 2 all, but Carrig will have felt we let the win behind us. Carrig had the greater possession and territory for the opening 30 mins but failed to score with a couple of decent chances with John Magner twice being denied at point blank from the Innishvilla keeper. Innishvilla came more into the game for the final 15 mins of the half and created some half chances in this period, but on 40 mins Carrig took the lead from a well worked free, Leonard Healy the scorer, 1nil at the break.

Second half was only 6 mins old when from a Carrig corner Innishvilla broke away and got an equaliser, with their backs up they had Carrig under pressure, and took the lead 5 mins later from a penalty. Carrig were very aggrieved as there was a blatant foul on John Magner in the lead up to the penalty, but even though the referree confirmed afterwards he saw it and it was a foul, he said he let play continue as it evened up a previous foul earlier in the play by a Carrig player (making up new rules as we go) Carrig took about 10 mins to regain composure after that, but did and pushed Innishvilla all the way to get back in the game, and got a deserved equaliser when Alan Stapleton volleyed home assuredly from a Darren Sylvester cross. Carrig pushed hard for the winner and were twice denied by the woodwork as the game finished 2 all.

League v Kilreen Celtic in Kilreen Park on Saturday 23rd February 2013
Kilreen Celtic 2 Carrigtwohill United 2

Scorers - John Magner, Derek Delea.

Carrig faced leaders Kilreen this Saturday at Murphys Farm, the pitch itself was in a terrible condition, which caused mayhem for both sides, but it effected Carrigs game plan more than Kilreen in the first half as it was vitually impossible to play any standard of football on it, and with only 1 striker it was a poor first half for Carrig. Kilreen who played with 2 quick strikers had all the best opportunities in the first half as Kilreen utilised the strikers pace well with balls played long over the top. It was from one such ball that Kilreen took the lead. When Alan Greaney took a ball to the end line and pulled a lovely ball back for his strike partner to finish superbly.

Second half saw Carrig reshuffle formation with 3 up front and the introduction of Martin Carroll paid off immediately when a long ball caused confusion in the Kilreen defence and John Magner took full advantage to nip the ball away from the keeper to draw the sides level. Carrig were now a far more attacking threat as we got the upperhand on the game and when Michael Hickey was pulled to the ground from a free kick, the referee awarded a penalty to CArrig, which Derek Delea tucked away. With 15 mins left in the game anincreasingly frustrated Kilreen had 2 players sent off in the space of 4 minutes for persistant mouthing to the referee.

Carrig should have seen the game out at this stage, but a combination of poor refereeing in the final 12 minutes and great determination from Kilreen, the sides were drawn level again. The referee who had lost control of the game obviously over compensated for the two sendings off for Kilreen, by awarding freekick after freekick to Kilreen even for the simplest of comings together. The gequaliser came from a series of poor decisions, firstly a free awarded to Kilreen outside the box when the Kilreen striker lost possession surrounded by 3 Carrig defenders, no challenge was made, the pitch was the only factor in the Kilreen man losing possession. From the resulting freekick a penalty was awarded to Kilreen when two Kilreen players fell over each other, to the extent that the players were joking about it afterwards. The Kilreen striker then hit the post from the penalty and the rebound fell to another Kilreen player who miscued it straight into the path of an offside Kilreen player who volleyed the equaliser from inside the six yard box. To rub salt in the wounds the referee then sent off Martin Carroll for his complaints over the referees decisions. Game finished 2 all, disappointing result considering how the equaliser was scored, but in the overall context a draw was a fair result for the both sides.

League v Glen Celtic in Glen Park on Sunday 13th January 2013
Glen Celtic 1 Carrigtwohill United 0

Today Carrigtwohillutd lost ground on their rivals with a defeat away to Glen Celtic. This was a game that Carrig felt they could have taken something out of as Carrig had created the better chances throughout the game, but failed to score on a disappointing day in front of goal.
The game was a real battle with both teams going at each other, but defences were on top in the first half as the teams finished nil all at the break.

The only goal of the game came when Glens Mark Nolan took a quick free kick when Carrig keeper Dave Linehan was organising a wall at his post, this was a real sucker punch. As hard as Carrig tried to pull it back, it just never fell kindly for us or Glens keeper came to the rescue or some great defending stopped Carrig from getting anything. Game finished 1 nil to Glen Celtic

League v Leeds in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 16th December 2012
Carrigtwohill United 6 Leeds 1

Scorer - Darren Sylvester, Alan Stapleton, Derek Delea 2, Leonard Healy, Michael Hickey.

Carrig beat a very young Leeds side comfortably today at Ballyadam. The win ensures Carrig will be top of the league going into the New year. Carrig took the lead after 10 minutes with a super finish from Darren Sylvester who controlled a high ball and lobbed the advancing keeper. The lead didn't last long as Leeds equalised after Carrig lost possession cheaply outside our box, the Leeds midfielder struck an unstoppable shot first time to give Dave Linehan no chance. Carrig got the lead back again when Alan Stapleton, whose energy and drive was causing Leeds all sorts of problems, was put through one on one with the keeper and Alan finish was clinical. Derek Delea gave Carrig a 3 -1 lead just before half time, with a sublime finish from s Stapleton through ball. Carrig were good value for their lead but were still not playing at their best.

The second half was better for Carrig as we dominated territory and scored a lucky fourth when Leonard Healy's cross was mis hit and lobbed over the stranded keeper. Carrig were rampant and threatened the Leeds goal at will, and Delea got his second when he finish a poor clearance with a powerful low drive. The scoring was wrapped up from a Michael Hickey header from a corner, followed by a bizarre celebration from the delighted scorer. 6-1 was the final score.

League v Blackstone Rovers in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 8th December 2012
Carrigtwohill United 6 Blackstone Rovers 0

Scorer - Derek Delea 3, Martin Carroll, Shane Kennedy, Steve Davern.

Carrig bounced back in style from their last game with an emphatic 6 nil win over Blackstone in the league. The game started evenly enough with both teams attacking each other, the first chance fell to Blackstone from a freekick, a flick on fell at the feet of the Blackstone attacker who volleyed wide from six yards, Carrig took the lead when good work by Shane Kennedy put Derek Delea through one on one and the striker was clinical in his finish, shortly afterwards Carrig went 2 up from a penalty by Delea after he was taken down in the box. Carrig continued to be dangerous and with a lovely move on the break, with Chris Casey and Delea linking up to set up Martin Carroll to make it 3 nil. Shane Kennedy made it 4 from a corner when Alan Stapletons back heel kindly bounced off Kennedys backside as he lay on the ground. Delea completed his hat trick with another penalty before half time, when a cross from the impressive Chris Casey was handled. 5 nil at half time.

The second half was a more even affair but again Carrig always looked dangerous on the break and had plenty of possession too. Steve Davern wrapped upped the scoring with a neat finish from a Casey pass. The only sour note for Carrig was the injury to Kevin O'Sullivan from a bad tackle midway through the half. Game finished 6 nil and an impressive team performance.

FAI Junior Cup v Pearse Celtic in CIT on Saturday 24th November 2012
Pearse Celtic 5 Carrigtwohill United 0

Carrig were humiliated today with a 5 nil thumping at the hands of Premier team Pearse. The day started badly as Carrig had only 10 players an hour before kick off, due to late withdrawals of 3 players and 2 no shows, which was an embarrassment for a club of the standing of Carrigtwohill, the late addition of Peter O'Brien from the second team at least meant Carrig started with 11. And after a decent start, Carrigs recent defensive woes continued when Pearse took the lead on 15 minutes, when their striker managed to walk his way from the byline into the six yard box without a challenge of note, and had the easiest of finishes to take the lead, the second came 10 minutes later from a free kick as a result of an argument between two Carrig players, the free kick from 30 yards struck one of Carrigs defenders and the deflection couldn't have been kinder for Pearse as it fell to the striker on the six yard line unmarked where he rolled it into the path of his own player for a simple finish.

Carrigs heads dropped and never looked likely to get back in the game. The second half was only 15 minutes old when keeper David Linehan who was playing well came out and smothered a ball at the feet of the Pearse striker but in the challenge he was caught heavily on the head, suffering from concussion he had to come off, leaving Carrig with 10 men for the remainder of the game. Davy Barry stood in, but could not do much with the 3 goals he conceded as Pearse looked likely to score with every attack at that stage. It finished 5 nil in what was the poorest performance in managers Liam O'Riordan's three seasons at the club.

League v Kilreen Celtic in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 17th November 2012
Carrigtwohill United 2 Kilreen Celtic 2

Scorer - Chris Casey, Shane Kennedy.

Kilreen were the opponents Saturday in the league, and the score finished 2 - 2, which was probably a fair reflection on the game. Carrig started the game brightly and had plenty of possession and had a good early chance when Chris Casey was in one on one, but he mis-hit his shot. Then Kilreen took the lead against the run of play when a weak clearance by Garry O\'Mahony, was punished by the lively Kilreen striker. Carrig continued to play decent football and got themselves level when a cross from Garry O\'Mahony was taken down well by Chris Casey and the striker finished well. Carrig took a lead that their first half display deserved just before the break, when skipper Shane Kennedy powered home a header from a corner.

Kilreen started much better second half and had Carrig on the backfoot for most of the half. And midway through the half Kilreen got a deserved equaliser, although again the Carrig defence can't be pleased with how the goal was defended. The game opened up when Kilreen were reduced to 10 men with 15minutes to go, as Carrig tried to make their numerical advantage count, but in doing so left gaps at the back which Kilreen could have punished but for some excellent keeping by David Linehan. Steve Davern could have won it right at the death for Carrig when good play by Martin Cronin and Shane Kennedy gave the midfielder a chance to win it, but his effort lacked the power to beat the equally impressive Kilreen keeper.

AOH Cup v Glen Celtic A in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 10th November 2012
Carrigtwohill United 1 Glen Celtic A 2

Scorer - Alan Stapleton

Carrig lost out to Premier A rivals Glen Celtic today in the AOH Cup. The game itself started at a tremendous pace with both teams going at each other right from the start. The opening goal came as early as the tenth minute, when Garry O\'Mahony lost possession at the edge of his box and it was punished with a superb strike. The second goal came 6 minutes later when a straight forward long ball was  poorly dealt with by a lack of communication between Carrig's centre halves ended with a flicked header straight into the path of the unmarked striker to again finish well. Carrig did  play better after that and were denied a goal when a header from Shane Kennedy beat the keeper but was cleared by the covering defender even if it looked like it had crossed the line. The big turning point of the game came on the stroke of half time, when the Glens keeper was sent off for a second yellow.

Carrig came out second half with a man advantage and dominated the game, the Glen were made to work very hard but they defended doggedly and Carrig couldn\'t get the break through. Carrig were helped even further, when the Glen were reduced to 9 after another player got sent off for a rash challenge on 72 mins. Carrig were completely camped in the Glens final third but had no luck in front of goal. Carrig did get one back from a super strike from Alan Stapleton with 5 minutes left, to give the Glen a nervy last few minutes to hold on which they did.

FAI Junior Cup v Springfield in Pat O'Brien Park on Sunday 4th November 2012
Springfield 1 Carrigtwohill United 4

Scorers - Martin Carroll, Garry O'Mahony, Alan Stapleton, John Magner

Carrigtwohill produced a superb display today in defeating Springfield at their pitch, Carrig came out of the blocks very quickly, and soon were dominating possession, Springfield couldn't live with the pace Carrig were playing at, and on 20 minutes Carrig got the opening goal when Martin Carroll out jumped his marker at the back post to head home a Kevin O'Sullivan cross. 5 minutes later Garry O'Mahony powered home a header from a corner, Carrig were cruising and could have had a few more before the break but Chris Casey failed to convert any of his chances. Springfield pulled one back just before the break with a superb free kick. Which gave Dave Linehan no chance. 2 -1 at half time.

Second half was much the same as the first with Carrig dominating, and after 65 minutes Alan Stapleton got Carrigs third. John Magner finished off the scoring on 80 mins with a well taken fourth. Carrig safely through to the fourth round.

League v Bohemians in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 27th October 2012
Carrigtwohill United 7 Bohemians 0

Scorers - Shane Kennedy 2, Martin Carroll 2, Craig Donnelly, John Magner, Chris Casey.

Carrig put some recent poor results behind them with an easy 7-0 win against a poor Bohemians side in the league. Starting the game at a high tempo, Carrig went 1 up after 30 secs when a cross from the right was headed home by Shane Kennedy. Shane turned provider 2 mins later when his cross was headed in by Chris Casey. It was 3-0 after 15 mins with a repeat of the first goal with Shane Kennedy again heading in a cross from the right. After 30 mins Carrig were awarded a penalty when Chris Casey was taken down in the box and Craig Donnelly, on for the injured Derek Remmington, made no mistake.

Carrig continued to play the game at a high tempo with some great passing and movement, driven on by the excellent Alan Stapleton. Martin Carroll made it 5-0 when he finished from close range after good work from Craig Donnelly down the right. John Magner got the 6th goal with a good finish and Martin Carroll got his 2nd to make it 7-0 when he broke the offside trap and finished well past the keeper.

Mossie Linnane Cup v Killumney United in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 20th October 2012
Carrigtwohill United 0 Killumney United 4

A bad day for Carrigtwohill as we were totally outplayed and outclassed in the quarter final of the Mossie Linnane Cup. Carrig were missing a few regulars but were still starting with a strong side, but after the initial exchanges it was Killumney who took contro. Carrig lacked workrate or communication which was the real downfall in the opening half, and after 20 minutes Carrig were out of the game at 3 nil down.

The second half Carrig faired better, with a change of formation and showed a little more fight, but Killumney were very organised and Carrig found it difficult to get anything passed their defence, the game was wrapped up on 70 minutes when Killumney scored a fourth on the break. Not much for Carrig to be happy with from a very poor team performance. This was very much an eye opener, to show what is needed to play at the top level in AUL football.

FAI Junior Cup v Evergreen in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 14th October 2012
Carrigtwohill United 4 Evergreen 2. AET.

Scorers - Chris Casey 2, Garry O'Mahony, Martin Carroll.

Carrigtwohill were made to work very hard by 3rd Division Evergreen today in the FAI Junior Cup. Carrig were strong favourites to progress today and even though we did start very well and had all the possession and early chances it was the visitors who took the lead on 20mins when a weak clearance from keeper Dave Linehan was punished with an outstanding strike from the Evergreen striker, Carrig kept playing good football to try and get the game level and always looked dangerous with the lively Chris Casey and the strong running of Derek Delea. But Evergreen stunned the home side when they went 2 up after Garry O'Mahony gave away a soft penalty on 30mins, Carrig came to life in the final 10 minutes of the first half driven on by the inspirational Alan Stapleton. And in the final minute of the first half Carrig were rewarded for their play when Chris Casey finished well when he got in behind the Evergreen defence.

Second half was played out much the same as the first with Carrig always looking likely to be next to score, Carrig did draw level when a corner wasn't cleared properly, and Garry O'Mahony slammed home the equaliser from 12yards. Carrig pushed hard for the winner in normal time but found it hard to break down the hard working Evergreen.

The game went to extra time and in the first minute, Jamie Rice played a super ball to Derek Rimmington who picked out Martin Carroll who finished excellently. Evergreen pushed hard to find an equaliser but were vulnerable to the break and Chris Casey caught Evergreen one such break, and put the game beyond doubt with his second of the game.

AOH Cup v Knockraha in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 7th October 2012
Carrigtwohill United 1 Knockraha 1. Carrig win 3-2 on pens, aet.

Scorer - Derek Delea.

Carrig advanced to the last 32 of the AOH Cup today, when we overcame the challenge of neighbours Knockraha. The game itself had to be decided by penalty kicks. Carrig started the game very quickly and were awarded a penalty in the second minute. Derek Delea made no mistake with the spotter. Carrig continued to dominate the opening half and were guilty of missing a few good chances. Chris Casey was a constant threat for Carrig with his direct running and lightening pace, and was unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions. The game remained 1 nil at half time.

Knockraha upped the tempo in the second half and had Carrig pinned in their own half for long periods of the half, Knockraha equalised on 60mins with a quick break which caught the Carrig defence out of position, the striker finished very well, the remainder of the half was played end to end with both teams going for the win, with the best chance falling to Derek Rimmington but the striker put the ball wide with the goal at his mercy. The game finished level and headed into extra time.

Extra time saw Carrig up the tempo again and had Knockraha hanging on, again Chris Casey was the thorn in Knockraha's side, and the striker was unlucky not to score the winner, Derek Delea and Garry O'Mahony also has good efforts to wrap up the tie but couldn't beat the impressive Knockraha keeper. The game headed to penalties where Carrigs hero was keeper David Linehan, he made two good saves to help Carrig progress to the next round 3 - 1 on penalties.

Munster Junior Cup v Killumney United in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 29th September 2012
Carrigtwohill United 2 Killumney United 6

Scorers - Derek Delea, Derek Rimmington.

Carrig were knocked out of the Munster Junior Cup after a catalogue of individual errors led to their downfall. Both teams started brightly with Killumney having more possession but Carrig looking dangerous on the break. After 25mins a long throw in from Killumney found an unmarked man in the box who was brought down from behind leaving the referee with no option but to award a penalty which Killumney duly converted. Minutes later a scuffed clearance from the Carrig keeper feel to a Killumney player who tucked it away with ease. On the stroke of half time, following a quick corner which Carrig switched off at, a looping header was directed back across goal to put the visitors 3-0 up.

After a change in formation to start the 2nd half, Carrig started the brighter and were awarded a penalty for handball in the box which Derek Delea converted. Carrig were now having their best spell of the game but were caught by a sucker punch when a cross from the Killumney right went all the way across the 6 yard box without being cut out and a Killumney player was on hand to turn it home. Carrig heads never dropped and soon they were rewarded when a great run down the right by Chris Casey was cut back and the ball fell to the impressive Derek Rimmington to put away and give Carrig a glimmer of hope. In the build-up to Carrig's 2nd goal a nasty collision occurred between a Killumney defender and goalkeeper which resulted in a lengthy delay which seemed to stall Carrig momentum. A mix up between keeper and defenders resulted in an o.g. to make it 5-2 to the visitors. With seconds remaining, and Carrig now reduced to 10 men, Killumney finished the scoring to make it 6-2.

AOH Cup v Corkbeg in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 22nd September 2012
Carrigtwohill United 5 Corkbeg 1

Scorers - Derek Delea 2, Martin Carroll, Garry O'Mahony, Shane Kennedy.

Carrigtwohill progressed to Round 2 of the Aoh Cup today, with a comfortable 5-1 victory over 2nd Division Corkbeg. Carrigtwohill tried a new formation today and even though we started positively, we lost our way for a period of the first half, during which Corkbeg took a surprise lead through a penalty. This was the kick up the backside Carrigtwohill needed, and with Leonard Healy commanding the midfield alongside the equally impressive Derek Delea and Shane Kennedy, Carrigtwohill were soon level when Delea was taken down in the box, Delea took the spotter himself to draw sides level. Ten minutes later Kennedy was pulled back again in the box, Delea again made no mistake from the spot.

The second half started much better for Carrigtwohill as the team settled with the formation, and the goal of the game came when sub Martin Carroll finished superbly from an excellent build up, where Davy Barry and Kennedy were instrumental. With Carrigtwohill now dominating the game through the inspirational midfield trio, Carrigtwohill added two more goals both from corners, the first from Garry O'Mahony who finished superbly from a half cleared corner. The final goal came from skipper Kennedy with an excellent header from a Darren Deasy corner.

League Cup v Knockavilla in Knockavilla on Saturday 8th September 2012
Knockavilla 3 Carrigtwohill United 2

Scorers - John Magner, OG.

Today was Carrigs final group game in the Mossie Linnane, Carrigtwohill had already qualified for the quarter final and their opponents needed to win to qualify. The opening exchanges were even with both teams looking to get a foothold in the game, Carrigtwohill found their pace quickly enough and looked to getting on top when Knockavilla took a lead against the run of play direct from a free kick. Carrigtwohill raised their game and fought hard to get back into it, they did on 25 minutes when they scored from an og from a Darren Deasy corner. Shortly before half time, Carrigtwohill took the lead with a goal from John Magner again from a Darren Deasy corner. Score was 2 -1 at half time with Carrigtwohill deserving their lead.

Second half became a real battle with Knockavilla coming very quick out of the traps. Knockavilla equalised after a terrible defensive mix up let in the Knockavilla striker, who lobbed the advancing keeper with ease. The game never got going as the ferocity of the challenges from both teams meant the game became very scrappy. Then on 65mins Carrigtwohill were awarded a penalty, but Leonard Healys penalty was well saved, this gave Knockavilla a boost. Then on 75 minutes Knockavilla got a third with a superb strike from the dangerous forward. Carrigtwohill piled on the pressure looking for an equaliser but never really got themselves the chance they needed. 3-2 was the final score.

League v Douglas Hall in Douglas on Friday 31st August 2012
Douglas Hall 2 Carrigtwohill United 2

Scorers - Peter Nugent, Martin Carroll.

First league of the season for Carrig was a tricky away game to Douglas Hall, the game was played on an all weather pitch, which was a massive advantage to the home side, Douglas started the better and took the lead after 15mins when their striker was given way too much time inside our box, when he was allowed to control the ball, turn and shoot without pressure, it was a good finish to give David Linehan no chance. Douglas stayed on top and even though there were very little goalmouth action, whenever there was Douglas seemed to be the ones with them. Carrig did get themselves sorted and got a lot more possession in the last 20 mins of the half but never looked like scoring.

Second half was only 2 minutes old when Carrig lost the ball on the edge of Douglas\'s box, with our defence all out of position, a long ball over the top was latched onto by the Pacy Douglas striker and he made no mistake to make it 2 nil. Carrig tried hard to get back in the game as Douglas sat back and soaked up any pressure put on them and looked to catch Carrig out with long balls behind the Carrig defence, which was working for them. Carrig made 3 changes and a change of formation gave Carrig the lift they needed, suddenly Douglas werent as comfortable. On 85 minutes Carrig finally got a break when Leonard Healy\'s strike was parried by the keeper for Peter Nugent to slam home from close range. Carrig piled on the pressure looking for an equaliser, and deep in injury time, Carrig got a corner, this was Carrigs final chance. Leonard Healy swung in a great ball for the bloodied Martin Carroll to head home an unlikely equaliser. That was the final action as the ref blew for full time.

League Cup v Springfield in Ballyadam Park on Tuesday 21st August 2012
Carrigtwohill United 6 Springfield 2

Scorers - D Barry, CDonnelly, L Healy(Pen), D Sylvester, M Sullivan, J Magner

Another good result for Carrig in the Mossie Linnane Cup, Springfield were the opposition today, the game itself again started well for Carrig and had a lot of the early possession, but it was Springfield who took the lead from a corner where Carrig didn\'t deal with it well enough. This upset the rythym of Carrig and found it difficult to get their passing going again, but when we did we got ourselves in a lovely position where Davy Barry finished off a good move with a half volley from 15 yards, Carrig took the lead 5 minutes from half time when Craig Donnelly broke the offside trap and finished superbly. 2-1 at half time to Carrig.

Second half was a lot more scrappy, Carrig failed to settle after an enforced change at half time, Carrig seemed to have put the game beyond the visitors when Mick Sull was taken down by the Springers Keeper, Leonard Healy made no mistake from the spot. Springfield then with 20 to go went down to 10 men after their defender injured his knee and all subs had been made. But Springfield still pulled a goal back again from sloppy defending, A tactical change saw Derek Delea play in a deeper role for the remainder of the game and with that Carrig finally got playing ball again and looked dangerous with every attack in which we scored 3 more quick goals from Darren Sylvester, Mick Sullivan and John Magner to wrap up the win. It finished 6-2 to Carrig.

League Cup v Douglas Hall in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 18th August 2012
Carrigtwohill United 1 Douglas Hall 1

Scorer - James Furlong

A good start to the season with a win against Douglas Hall, the game started well for Carrig with some nice crisp passing and a good work rate, an early chance fell to John Magner when he came in from the wing and got on the end of a good through ball but it was saved well by the Douglas Keeper, but Carrig didn't have to wait long for an opener, when on 15 minutes Davy Barry put a lovely ball over the Douglas defence for James Furlong to get on the end of, the winger finished brilliantly with a first time strike. Douglas came more into the game after that but chances were reduced to set plays, then on 30 minutes Douglas had a man sent off for a second yellow. This helped Carrig regain control of the game till half time.

Half time allowed Douglas to regroup and change their shape and to be fair played a lot better second half only that they lacked any edge up front with only 1 striker, Carrig even though we weren't at our best in the second half had all the best goal scoring chances, and we\'re guilty of missing some great chances, for as good a contest this was it was ruined by the persistent off the ball fouling by a couple of Douglas players, who only seemed interested in trying to get players to react and get them sent off. Carrig were reduced to 10 men at the end when our centre back reacted to the off the ball antics, but Carrig saw out the game to take the 1 nil victory.
