Division 3A 2012/13 Reports
AOH Cup v Ballinhassig in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 9th December 2012
Carrigtwohill United 0 Ballinhassig 3
Carrig today went out of the AOH Cup at the hands of Ballinhassig who play two divisions higher. Carrig who were a bit thrown together had the better of a tight first half, with Brendan Horgan coming closest when his header came off the post.
The second half was just as even but Ballinhassig had the ball in Carrigs half a lot more this half and they got the opener from a free kick, a poorly defended free was finished well by the Ballinhassig frontman. Carrig were not passing the ball as well as they were in the first half which meant the two strikers were getting little or no decent possession. Ballinhassig doubled their lead with 20 to go with a neat finish from the edge of the box. Carrig then changed formation slightly as we had Ballinhassig pinned back in their half, but Carrig couldn't break down the hard working Ballinhassig defence, the best effort came from Steve Davern who smashed an effort against the crossbar. Carrig were hit for a sucker punch with 10 left when a Mis hit cross went over Carrigs keepers reach for Ballinhassigs third. The game finished 3 nil, in truth it was not a fair reflection on the game, but Carrig will feel they didn't pass the ball well enough and the overall fitness wasn't there as a lot of players tired badly in the second half.

League v Carrigaline United in Ballea Park on Saturday 10th November 2012
Carrigaline United 2 Carrigtwohill United 0
Carrigtwohill United B suffered their first defeat of the season Saturday evening on Carrigaline's all weather pitch. Carrig started well, dictating the pace of the game and were very unlucky not to have an early lead when James Furlong and Darren Sylvester both went close. Ian Kenny also had a long range effort well saved by the Carrigaline keeper. Carrig felt as if they should have had a penalty when Darren Sylvester was brought down in the box but he was judged to be offside even though it seemed the ball was played backwards to him by Steve Davern. The home side capitalised on this slice of good fortune and took the lead when a corner wasn't dealt with, the ball appeared to be cleared off the line but the referee blew the whistle indicating a goal had been scored. 1-0 at half time.
Carrig piled the pressure on in the second half and the home side when down to ten men because of a last man challenge that stopped a clear goal scoring opportunity. Again with the majority of the ball, Carrig pushed on further, but couldn't find the break through. Ian Kenny was then sent off with ten minutes to go in a similar fashion as the Carrigaline player earlier in the half. Another mix up at the back between keeper and centre half handed Carrigaline there second with only minutes to go and the game finished 2-0.

League v Evergreen in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 4th November 2012
Carrigtwohill United 2 Evergreen 1
Scorers - Craig Donnelly, Peter O'Brien.
Carrigtwohill United B maintained their unbeaten record in all competitions with a hard fought win over Evergreen at Ballyadam Park. Carrig started brightly with Craig Donnelly and Steve Davern linking up well together on a number of occasions with the Evergreen keeper proving inspired to keep the game scoreless. Eventually the Carrig pressure told and when Craig Donnelly was put one on one with the keeper he coolly passed the ball in to the net. Carrig were now dominating the game but couldn't score the 2nd goal which their pressure deserved. Evergreen however almost levelled before half time when they had 2 chances to score due to slack defending, one from a free header from a corner and the other from a long ball over the top which the Evergreen striker lobbed over Eoghan O'Mahony but put wide of the target.
Carrig started the 2nd half the brighter again and were rewarded with their 2nd goal. A good move again set Donnelly free whose finish hit the post but the livewire Ollie Cooney picked up the rebound but was fouled inside the box. The ever reliable Peter O'Brien duly tucked away the penalty kick. As in previous weeks Carrig let the opposition back in to the game and Evergreen scored after some poor tracking back by the Carrig midfield. Evergreen now were putting on the pressure without creating many chances and Carrig held out in the end for a deserved win to remain top of the table.

AOH Cup v DeCourcey Albion in Ballinadee on Sunday 28th October 2012
De Courcey Albion 1 Carrigtwohill United 2
Scorer - Brendan Horgan 2.
Carrigtwohill United B reached the last 16 of the AOH Cup with a dominant display over one of the top teams in Division 2 last Sunday morning. Carrig started brightly getting the ball down and playing good football on a very bumpy pitch. Albion defended very deep in the first half and resorted to long balls to their pacey strikers. It was one of these long balls that led to the first goal of the game, Albions number 10 getting on the end of a long ball from the centre half to smash a shot from the edge of the box past keeper Eoghan O'Mahony who barely saw the ball go into his net. Carrig didn't panic though and continued to get joy down the right, Kevin O'Sulliivan and Ollie Cooney linking well, Cooney having a wonder strike of his own saved well by Albion's Keeper. Half time 1-0.
Carrig started the better in the second half, knowing that with the wind and with a decent amount of football that goals would come, and they did. A lovely cross from the right, landed on the head of Brendan Horgan who cooly headed into the net. James Furlong was getting into the game and his run nearly put Carrig ahead but he couldn't get his shot away. Carrig's second goal then followed. Nice play from Steve Davern and Mick Sull in the middle of the park put Brendan Horgan in behind and he rounded the keeper to put Carrig 2-1 up with 20 to go. Albion, pushed up the pitch leaving gaps in behind but never really threatened Carrigs goal their main chances coming from a couple of corners late on. Carrig held on to book their place in the last 16.

Carrig were having the best of it in the early parts of the second half but Boscos were solid at the back and hard to break down. James Broderick was replaced By Brendan Cronin through injury so Carrig had to reshape things slightly but this didnt set them back and they went ahead once again through Steven Kidney for his second of the game, a through ball was played through to Kidney who broke free and slotted home to the keepers right hand side. Boscos then fought back and scored a spectacular goal with the boscos striker volleying a great goal into the back of the net. It was a tense last 20 minutes with both teams going for it but Carrig just shaded it and hung on for all 3 points

Scorers - Steve Davern 2, Brendan Horgan 2.
Carrigtwohill United B kept there unbeaten run in this years league with a fantastic away victory to fellow title chaser Knocknaheeny Celtic. Carrig started really well and should have had a blatent penalty in the first 5 mins when Craig Donnelly was brought down but the ref didn't give it. Donnely went off injured and was replaced by Dave Keohane. Carrig were playing some great football and took the lead through Steve Davern who finished from an acute angle and the ball trickled home. Carrig then left their foot off the pedal and conceded a scrappy goal with some poor defending but went ahead once more when Brendan Horgan broke free down the right and squared it to Steve Davern to score his second of the day. AOH v CFC Banteer in Banteer Sports Field on Saturday 6th October 2012
CFC Banteer 2 Carrigtwohill United 2. Carrig win 3-2 on penalties.
Scorers - Brendan Horgan, Ollie Cooney.
Carrig progressed to the last 32 of the AOH cup after a spirited comeback against Banteer. Carrig found themselves 1 down after 3 minutes when a penalty was harshly awarded for handball in the box which Banteer converted. Things got worse 2 mins later when another penalty was awarded for a challenge from behind with Banteer converting again. Carrig slowly started to get back in to the game and after 2 or 3 shots from long distance they eventually made the breakthrough. A long ball was cleared by the Banteer defence but the lively Mick Sullivan spotted an unmarked Brendan Horgan and headed the ball in to his path. Brendan rifled the ball past the keeper and Carrig were now back in the game before half time.
In the 2nd half Carrig again started slowly and the excellent Eoghan O'Mahony had to be lively to snuff out the early Banteer threats. Carrig however were not going down without a fight and after a sustained period of pressure they finally equalized when a corner was swung in by Ollie Cooney which went directly in to the net. Carrig's tails were now up and again looked the more likelier to score in extra time. The final chance of extra time fell to Kevin O'Keeffe, now pushed up front due to injury, who failed to convert a superb cross from Mick Sullivan after great work from Kevin O'Sullivan. It went to penalties and Eoghan O'Mahony pulled off 3 superb saves to ensure Carrig's progress.

League v Glen Celtic B in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 16th September 2012
Carrigtwohill United 2 Glen Celtic B 1
Scorers - Martin Carroll, Brendan Horgan.
Carrig earned a hard-fought 3 points at home to a very good Glen Celtic side. The game started at a fast pace with both sides trying to get the ball down at every opportunity. Chances were few and far between early on with both defenses on top. Carrig took the lead after 30 mins when Martin Carroll got in down the left and rifled a left-footed shot into the roof of the net. Brendan Horgan made it 2-0 soon after when he beat the keeper to a mishit cross from Peter O'Brien and headed it in. Carrig were well on top at this stage but let Glen Celtic back into the game just before half time when some poor defending in the left corner allowed the Glen midfielder to get the ball to the back post where it was finished well.
Glen Celtic now had their tails up and were well on top in the 2nd half. Carrig struggled to hold onto the ball and allowed Glen to pile on the pressure with some poor passing but the Carrig defense held firm with Sean Madden and Adrian McDonnell very impressive. Overall it was a good win against a strong team and Carrig remain unbeaten.

AOH Cup v Central Rovers in O'Sullivan Park on Saturday 8th September 2012
Central Rovers 0 Carrigtwohill United 1
Scorer - Mick Sullivan
Carrig had a more comfortable progression to the next round of the AOH Cup than the 1-0 scoreline suggests over their higher division opponents. After a sloppy start defensively from Carrig, they took a grip in midfield through Mick Sullivan and Ian Kenny. After a succession of excellent corners from the lively Ollie Cooney, Carrig finally made one pay off midway through the first half when Mick Sullivan rose highest in the Central box to head past the keeper. Carrig continued to dominate and were unlucky not to double their advantage before half time when a lovely move down the left resulted in Peter Nugent laying on a chance for Darren Sylvester which was well saved.
In the 2nd half, Carrig continued to dominate and created further chances for Chris Horgan, Darren Sylvester and substitute Brendan Cronin which were all spurned. A solid defensive display meant that Carrig were never overly troubled at the back and saw out the game for a comfortable 1-0 result to advance to the 2nd Round of the AOH Cup.

In the 2nd half Carrig increased the tempo and started passing the ball around well. Ian Kenny began to control midfield and his through balls combined with the pace of Chris Casey had the Buttevant defense under great pressure. There was a better start to the 2nd half with Carrig starting to pass the ball better but were caught on the break by Tower after about 60 mins. Tower got in down the left and the cross was headed down for an unmarked player coming through from midfield to finish from 10 yards.
Carrig upped their game and helped by a couple of substitutions piled the pressure on Tower. They got their reward when a corner from the left was half cleared to Craig Donnelly who volleyed into the top corner.

Tower continued to be dangerous on the break and Kevin O'Keefe was shown a straight red when he brought down the Tower striker going through on goal even though there was cover around.
