Premier A 2011/12 Reports
League v Bohemians on Sunday 29th April
Bohemians 3 Carrigtwohill United 1
Scorer - Peter O'Brien
On a wet and windy Sunday morning Carrig played their last League game of the season. Things didn't start well when a couple of players failed to turn up for the game. Carrig had to start the game with ten men for the first few minutes and had to play with regular centre half Garry O'Mahony playing on goal. In a game that was spoilt by the high winds which made it hard to play decent football Carrig were up against it with the lack of numbers. But we still took the lead when Peter O'Brien finished well from a corner.
Bohemians leveled through an o.g. when a decent low driven ball hit off Peter O'Brien and defelected into his own net. Bohs took the lead shortly afterwards and left Carrig playing catch up. Carrig had their chances with the best falling to Chris Casey who was unlucky not to score. But Bohs wrapped up a vital win in their own battle to avoid relegation when a free kick from near halfway went directly over the badly positioned Carrig keeper to make the game 3 - 1 to Bohs and that is how the game finished.

League v Leeds in Leeds Park on Sunday 22nd April
Leeds 0 Carrigtwohill United 1
Scorer - Leonard Healy
Carrig had a decent away win on Sunday, when we came up against Leeds in Ballyvolane, Carrig played superb football in the first half where we dominated possession. But for all the possession Carrig had, we created very few clear cut chances as Leeds defence were superb and when we did get the chances we came up against a goalkeeper who was having a super game. The best chances both fell to Steve Davern, the first was a half volley from the edge of the box that looked to have the dipped over the keeper only for him to get his fingertips to the ball to push it off the crossbar, the second chance came shortly after when a shot from a cleared corner was controlled by Davern on the penalty spot and the shot looked destined for the bottom right corner only for the keeper to make an outstanding save to keep it out. Carrig's pressure eventually told when from a corner that Leeds failed to deal with Leonard Healy eventually poked the ball home to give Carrig the deserved lead at half time.
The second half Leeds came at Carrig and looked like a different team, Carrig didn't get the possession we had in the first half and had to do a lot of defending, Leeds had a couple of decent chances themselves to equalise but any chance they did get Tom Corcoran in goal saved. Carrig themselves had a few decent chances in the second half mainly from playing on the break, the best of which fell to Steve Davern again but the strikers effort was again well saved by the Leeds stopper. The game finished at 1 nil to Carrig.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Darren Deasy
League v Springfield in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 14th April
Carrigtwohill United 3 Springfield 1
Scorers - Chris Casey, John Magner, Steve Davern
Carrig came away with a very important 3 points against title chasers Springfield today, the win gives Carrig an outside chance to still be in the shake up for second place, the first half was scrappy enough with both teams failing to get any grip on the game but Springfield did have more territory and the better of the chances did fall to the visitors but nothing really clear cut. It remained scoreless at half time.
The introduction of Chris Casey and John Magner and a change of formation at half time did the trick for Carrig as we finally played the football we are capable of. Chris Casey opened the scoring when a ball played through to the striker put him away down the right side his pace took him to the edge of the box where he finished with a powerful finish at the near post.
Springfield reacted well and upped their game chasing an equaliser and they got it from a well worked corner. The game was played at a tremendous pace in the second half where both teams looked to win the game, on 75mins Carrig got the next goal to put them in command, Carrig's pace on the break caused Springfield huge problems and the goal came from one such break down the left where good link play between Martin Carroll, Chris Casey ended with John Magner finishing well in front of goal. Carrig wrapped up the game with 3 minutes left when another quick break a when a low cross was driven across the box, Chris Casey was up ended as he was about to pull the trigger. Steve Davern stepped upped and coolly finished the resultant spotter. Final score 3 - 1 to Carrig.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Keith Ryan
League v Castleview in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 31st March
Carrigtwohill United 1 Castleview 3
Scorer - Leonard Healy
Carrig were defeated today by promotion rivals Castleview, the game started at a very high pace with both teams going at it, it was a very even game until Castleview opened the scoring after 15mins after a clearance from a corner hit a defender on the way to safety and the ball broke nicely for the Castleview player to finish with a powerful strike. The game remained tight but Castleview always looked the more likely to score and indeed they added a second on 25mins when a nicely delivered cross from the left was finished by the Castleview front man, Carrig did up the pressure in search of a goal before the break but when a nice move put Chris Casey in the striker could only hit the side net. It stayed 2 nil at half time.
The second half saw Carrig attacking more as Castleview sat deeper and looked to defend their lead but always were a threat on the break. And on 55mins Castleview scored a third from a ball over the top, the striker looked offside but was allowed to play on and finished superbly with a lob over the advancing keeper. Carrig kept on plugging away to try get something out of a game that was slipping away from them. But The Castleview defence were superb and gave little chances to Carrig. Carrig did pull one back on 75mins from a penalty by Leonard Healy. This gave Carrig a glimmer of hope and they pushed Castleview all the way for the remainder of the game, where we created a number of decent chances but failed to convert and the game finished 3 - 1 to the visitors.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Garry O'Mahony.
League v Gratten United in O’Neill Park on Saturday 10th March
Grattan United 1 Carrigtwohill United 2
Scorers - Brendan Horgan & Jordan O'Leary
Carrig were very lucky to get out of this game with 3 points. Grattan were out to prove a point from the 10 nil mauling from earlier in the season and right from the start they were in the Carrig's players faces, working very hard closing down space and not allowing Carrig to get the ball to play their game. The playing surface was very poor which did not suit Carrig's game. Grattan had the better possession early on but rarely got passed a hard working midfield and well organised defence, and any ball that did get passed the defence was mopped up very competently by an impressive Tom Corcoran. After the early pressure Carrig got some possession themselves and created a few half chances before we went 1 up when a decent cross from Craig Donnelly was powerfully headed home from Brendan Horgan. Carrig had the better goal scoring chances in the remainder of the first half where we could have increased our lead but it stayed 1 nil at half time.
The second half was just as tight as the first with the same pattern as the first. Grattan working very hard without getting any real goal scoring chances. Again even though Grattan had more possession Carrig always looked the more likely to score. Substitute Chris Casey was a menace all through the half with his direct running and lightening pace. He had a goal ruled out very harshly for a dubious foul on the keeper. Then in the 80th minute Grattan equalised from a well delivered corner. Grattan sensed an upset an upped their game looking for the win and when their striker took a shot from the edge of the box the initial save was spilled by Tom Corcoran and when he gathered at the second attempt he was kicked in the head with a very late disgraceful challenge that went unpunished, Tom was unable to play the remainder of the game which meant Carrig had to play with 10 men for the remaining 6mins. Carrig kept their shape with Chris Casey playing up front on his own and with 2mins remaining Casey picked up the ball in the opposition half and ran at the Grattan defence he got to the end line and beat the last defender who made a desperate lunge to win the ball and took Chris out instead. Penalty was awarded and upped stepped Jordan O Leary under huge pressure and unsporting behaviour from Grattan players before the kick. Jordan clung his penalty to shut up the disgraceful antics from certain Grattan players. The game finished shortly afterwards.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match- Jordan O'Leary.
League v Kilreen Celtic in Murphys Farm on Saturday 25th February
Kilreen Celtic 0 Carrigtwohill United 2
Scorer - Craig Donnelly 2
Carrigtwohill bounced back in style from the defeat to Pearse last week, with an impressive display against Kilreen Celtic. There were 4 changes from the previous week and the players brought in made a huge difference. Garry O'Mahony had to stand in goal for the injured Tom Corcoran and produced a super display and Brendan Horgan with his first competitive start this season also impressed for Carrig. The game started at a very quick pace with both teams looking to stamp their authority on the game, and with Kilreens two pacy & lively forwards to deal with the Carrig back four had to constantly on their toes to deal with the great movement from the opposition. Carrig could have taken an early lead when a ball broke to Brendan Horgan in the 6 yard box but his shot well saved by the Kilreen keeper who was very quick to snuff out the chance. Carrig did get their breakthrough shortly afterwards when the prolific Craig Donnelly was taken down in the box by a rash challenge by the Kilreen defender. Donnelly took the penalty himself and made no mistake. Carrig were well on top but Kilreen did have there chances too! Carrig didn't have to wait long for a second when from a Davy Barry corner, Donnelly got his second with a super half volley. Brendan Horgan could have made it 3 before half time when the powerful striker created a chance out of nothing and his pile driver of a strike came off the post and away to safety. 2 nil at half time.
The second half started brightly for Kilreen who upped their game in pursuit of a comeback, and they had 2 glorious chances to score but Carrig were let off the hook on both occasions, and once Carrig held out for that 15 minutes in the second half, Kilreen looked like a team that felt there chance was gone. Carrig who played on the break for the second half were awarded a second penalty on 65 minutes when Shane Kennedy was taken down. Donnelly stepped up looking to secure his hat trick but was denied by a super save from the Kilreen stopper. This was to be Donnelly's final action and was replaced by Chris Casey who was at the centre of all the action for the remainder of the game.
With the game stretched and Kilreen pushing forward looking to pull something back they left themselves exposed at the back, Chris Casey with his devastating pace tore the Kilreen defence apart with his direct running and should have been rewarded with at least 1 goal, on another day he would have had a hat trick. The game ended 2 nil with Carrig the deserving winners.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - John Magner
League v Pearse Celtic in CIT on Saturday 18th February
Pearse Celtic 2 Carrigtwohill United 1
Scorer - John Magner
Carrig were beaten for the first time in over 2 months at the weekend by current league leaders Pearse. On a very windy day which made it difficult for good football the top 2 met at CIT. The first half began with Carrig starting the brighter and playing some decent football, but for their good possession and play we didn't create any decent chances when we got into their box. The first real chance came from Pearse when a long clearance from the Pearse keeper was controlled brilliantly by the Pearse front man and got his shot off which was well saved by Thomas Corcoran. Carrig playing against the wind had the next decent chance when a crossed ball broke to Craig Donnelly who shot too close to the keeper who gathered at the 2nd attempt. Carrig were guilty of giving away free kicks inside their own half too frequently and with a strong wind they were putting unnecessary pressure on themselves. The opening goal came after 25mins when a corner helped by the wind put pressure on the Carrig keeper who could only palm it out to hit his own defender and the rebound fell for the Pearse attacker to bundle the ball over the line. The rest of the half was played out without any real chances of note.
The second half again started brightly for Carrig but Pearse upped their work rate and never gave Carrig a chance to impose themselves on the game. The better chances fell to Pearse in this half and Thomas Corcoran was again called into action to keep Carrig in the game with a super save on 65mins. Carrig were guilty of wasting the few opportunities they were given to test the Pearse keeper from good dead ball situations where the delivery was not at it's usual decent standard. Carrig did have a decent shout for a penalty when Shane Kennedy was taken down at the edge of the box but the referee did not award the spotter. On 80 minutes of a tight game Pearse struck the killer blow to go 2 up when a Carrig attack broke down with both midfielders caught out of position Pearse broke quickly down the centre of the pitch and the first challenge to be made was a last ditch attempted block from the winning strike. Carrig pushed on for the last 10 and finally got their breakthrough with a well worked goal from John Magner. For the final 4mins Carrig threw everything at Pearse but they held out for a vital win.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Mark O'Mahony
League v Leeds in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 4th February
Carrigtwohill United 4 Leeds 2
Scorers - Steve Davern , Craig Donnelly 3.
On a heavy pitch, Carrig collected another 3pts today, it wasn't the best performance but we had a decent start when Steve Davern put Carrig one up after 7 mins when he finished well when put through, Craig Donnelly doubled the lead 10mins later when he scored a superb solo effort and the striker got his second on 30mins with a powerful header from a corner, at this stage Carrig were in complete control of the game and Leeds looked a beaten side. But over confidence crept in and some players stopped putting in the required work rate, Leeds pulled one back on 40mins after some sloppy defending by Carrig, and then stunned Carrig when they got a second from a direct free on the stroke of half time.
Carrig knew they had no one to blame but themselves for giving Leeds a lifeline, but still we started positively in the second half and got our two goal cushion back when a nice link up down the right wing between Davy Barry and Mick Sullivan ended with a pinpoint cross for Craig Donnelly to complete his hat trick with another header. After that Leeds dominated the remainder of the game and had their opportunities to score more goals but Carrig worked very hard to take the win which they did.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Craig Donnelly
League v Springfield in Pat O'Brien Park on Sunday 22nd January
Springfield 1 Carrigtwohill United 2
Scorers - Davy Barry, Steve Davern
Carrigtwohill today recorded a great victory over their biggest rivals in Cobh. Carrig changed formation to counter Springfields style of play, and it paid off as it kept Springfield from getting any chance of note in the first half. In fact both sides cancelled each other out in a very competitive game and with no real chances for either side it remained scoreless at half time.
Carrig started the second half the better and kept the ball a lot better, and won a few early corners. The opening goal came on 52mins when good pressure from the Carrig midfield high up the pitch won possession and when the ball broke to Davy Barry outside the box, the fullback struck an unstoppable half volley from 25yards that gave the Springfield keeper no chance. 5 minutes later Carrig doubled their lead when a lovely passing move ended with Shane Kennedy putting a lovely through ball to the lively Steve Davern who's movement was excellent and put the striker in on goal, and again finished his chance superbly. Springfield made a couple of changes to chase the game, but for all their possession they failed to get goal scoring chances. Springfield did pull one back with 10mins left, when a nice run by their winger got to the end line and he picked out a nice run from his team mate, where he finished very well.
The game was played out with Springfield chasing an equaliser but Carrig remained very organised and saw out the game for an excellent win.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Alan Stapleton
League v Blackstone Rovers in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 14th January
Carrigtwohill United 3 Blackstone Rovers 1
Scorers - Craig Donnelly 2, Alan Stapleton
On a very windy day for football, Carrig came up against Blackstone Rovers. Carrig made 6 changes from the previous week and even though neither team got on top in the early exchanges, Carrig did take the lead on ten minutes when Craig Donnelly was put through. The striker took the ball in on goal and finished coolly passed the Blackstone keeper. Blackstone replied themselves 5 minutes later when a half cleared cross was half volleyed back at goal and the looping ball went over Thomas Corcoran's reach and hit the crossbar. The ball rebounded out but only a Blackstone striker followed in the shot and the unmarked striker headed the ball passed the keeper.
The game remained very sloppy with neither team holding any sort of possession but when Carrig did play we created a number of decent scoring opportunities which we failed to score from. Carrig did however regain the lead when a quick throw from halfway caught the visitors out and a nice series of passes ended with Alan Stapleton slamming the ball home from just inside the box. It stayed 2-1 at halftime.
The second half started the same as first half but this half Blackstone were far less of a threat and all the best chances were falling to Carrig. A couple of changes made a big difference as Carrig started to hold possession much better and when a nice move involving Steve Davern and Martin Carroll ended with Carroll playing a superb ball behind the defence for the onrushing Donnelly. The striker smashed an unstoppable half volley from 20 yards passed the helpless keeper. The game finished 3 - 1 with Carrig guilty of missing a couple of more decent chances but overall it was a good job done with Carrig taking the 3 points.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Craig Donnelly
League v Kilreen Celtic in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 7th January
Carrigtwohill United 1 Kilreen Celtic 1
Scorer - John Magner
This was Carrig's first game in nearly a month on Saturday, and Carrig looked very sharp against a decent opposition. Carrig made a lot of the early running and created a number of chances but failed to take them. The breakthrough came on 20 minutes when a Darren Deasy free kick found John Magner who finished with a well taken header. Kilreen raised their game and got back into the game 10 minutes later when a ball was played over the top to their winger who had too much time to put a cross, the cross deceived the Carrig Keeper who could only palm it out but unfortunately it hit the rebounded off the head of Adrian McDonnell and in to the net. Carrig pushed hard to regain the lead in the first half with a superb showing from Davy Barry and Alan Stapleton down the right wing, where they created numerous chances but it remained 1 all at half time.
The second half saw Carrig dominate territory and had Kilreen on the backfoot for the bulk of the half, but it was going to be a frustrating day for Carrig as they came up against a Kilreen Keeper who had a superb game and a very resilient Kilreen defence who were under the cosh but held out. Carrig had decent chances for Mick Sullivan, Shane Kennedy, Leonard Healy and Brendan Horgan but all failed to convert and even had a goal harshly disallowed for a challenge on the keeper. Kilreen though with 2 quick front men and 2 pacy wingers always posed a threat themselves on the break and had a couple of half chances with the best effort being a 30 yard shot which hit the top of the crossbar. The game finished 1 all which Carrig were disappointed with.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Adrian McDonnell
League v Kanturk in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 10th December
Carrigtwohill United 4 Kanturk 2
Scorers Leonard Healy 2 Steve Davern 2
A game of two halves today as Kanturk started the game at a very high tempo, Carrig couldn't live with the movement and Kanturk scored in the opening 10mins after a good move broke the Carrig offside trap. Carrig were denied an equaliser when a headed effort clearly crossed the line only for the ref who wasn't in the right position to award the goal. Kanturk continued to dominate the midfield exchanges and doubled their lead after a quick throw to their midfielder on the edge of the box, the Kanturk man turned very easily and was allowed to shoot and put it passed the reach of the Carrig keeper. 2 nil at half time.
Carrig came out the second half much more determined and quickly got on top playing the football we are capable of and a nice move finished by Steve Davern crossing to Craig Donnelly getting ahead of his marker but his shot was parried by the keeper and allowed Leonard Healy to slam home the rebound. The comeback was on, Carrig equalised on 70mins when a corner was attacked by midfield powerhouse Shane Kennedy, the keeper again saved the initial header and Leonard Healy was again on hand to finish the rebound. Carrig now wanted a third and sensed victory, within minutes a deflected cross landed at the head of unmarked Steve Davern and the striker coolly headed passed the Kanturk keeper. Kanturk now went 3 at the back in search of an equaliser and in doing so left themselves exposed at the back, and Carrig wrapped up the win with a fourth on 90mins when a quick break put Steve Davern through one on one and the striker made no mistake
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Shane Kennedy.
League v Pearse Celtic in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 3rd December
Carrigtwohill United 0 Pearse Celtic 1
A frustrating day for Carrig started with a squad that was short of 5 players, but the starting team did start superbly well and played some excellent football and had Pearse on the backfoot, a couple of strikes from distance from Jordan O'Leary had the visitors worried, and when Shane Kennedy headed home from a free, the goal was harshly disallowed for a 'push' Carrig were well on top but a break from Pearse almost put them ahead but for an excellent save from Thomas Corcoran. Then the turning point of the game in a mad few minutes skipper Derek Healy got himself sent off with two bookings just before half time.
Carrig had to rearrange the team at half time and it took the edge of our attack, Pearse were more prominent in attack second half but created little in terms of chances. The only goal came on 70mins when a well timed run from the Pearse midfielder beat our offside line and managed to head a bouncing ball over the advancing Thomas Corcoran, Pearse could of had a second 10mins later but the effort came off the underside of the crossbar, Carrig could have snatched an equaliser when Steve Davern almost finished with a half volley that went inches wide, but it wasn't to be and it finished 1 nil.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Michael Hickey.
FAI Junior Cup 4th Round v Glen Celtic in Celtic Park on Sunday 27th November
Glen Celtic 3 Carrigtwohill United 1
Scorer - John Magner
A game in which Carrig never got going, Glen Celtic started very well and dominated the early exchanges and with their midfield duo well on top they had Carrig on the backfoot. Glen had a couple of half chances during the first 20 but nothing of note. Carrig battled hard to get back into it, but on a heavy pitch with long grass it was never going to suit us. Carrig were first to have the ball in the net but Garry O'Mahony was ruled offside, moments later Glen opened the scoring when Mark O'Mahony hesitated when trying to clear his line but was dispossessed in the box and the striker laid the ball into the path of an unmarked player to finish easily. It stayed 1 nil till half time.
Second half saw no improvement and after 55mins Glen went 2 up from a direct free kick which Tom Corcoran knows he could have done better with to keep out. Carrig made a couple of changes and this gave the team a lift and a nice move down the left, put Leonard Healy in behind the defence where he delivered a super cross for the on rushing John Magner to finish well. Carrig now felt we had a chance and raised the tempo all over the pitch. But the revival was short lived when 5 mins later a long ball caught the defence out and a tangle of legs between defender and attacker saw our defender sent off as last man. Glen scored from resulting free kick which with 10 mins left was enough for a deserving win.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match: Leonard Healy.
League v Bohemians in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 12th November
Carrigtwohill United 2 Bohemians 1
Scorer - Chris Casey 2
Carrig played some great high tempo football again today but had to leave it very late to wrap up a well deserved win.
Carrig started very quickly and had Bohs in all sorts of trouble, despite the barrage of attacks and chances Carrig failed to score in the first half in which we dominated.
The second half was a similar story with chances again being wasted, but this half saw more of Bohs as an attacking force and they took the lead completely against the run of play on 65mins when a half cleared free kick was ballooned high into the box, Bohs had 3 players unmarked on the 6yd box where one of them has the simplest of headers to take the lead.
This was a huge setback but all credit to the lads they dug in and never gave in, a couple of inspired changes made all the difference as Leonard Healy in a more advanced role was causing the visitors all problems. The equaliser came on 75mins when the keeper failed to hold a Derek Healy free kick and substitute Chris Casey was on hand to force home the rebound. Carrig sensed victory and pushed hard and only for an outstanding display from the Bohs keeper we could have had a comfortable day, he seemed to stop everything. The winner came with 4mins to go, when nice play put Leonard Healy away down the left, his cross to the far post found Chris Casey where he controlled the ball and finished past the helpless keeper to give Carrig the 3 points.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Davy Barry
FAI Junior Cup 3rd Round v Skibbereen in Skibbereen on Sunday 6th November
Skibbereen 0 Carrigtwohill United 1
Scorer - Alan Stapleton
A great team performance in West Cork this weekend saw Carrig beat an undefeated Skibbereen team on their own patch. Carrig were very quickly out of the blocks and immediately had Skibb on the backfoot, Carrig played some great hi tempo football and when not in possession put the opposition under huge pressure. Early chances fell to Jordan O'Leary whose powerful effort was spilt by the keeper who managed to get it at the 2nd attempt, Mick Sullivan and Davy Barry were causing big problems for Skibbereen down our right wing and when a well worked move saw Sullivan race into the box unmarked, he squared a super ball across the six yard box but both strikers failed to get the killer touch. Steve Davern was next to try his luck when he volleyed a half cleared ball and was unlucky to see his effort stopped by one of our own players.
Skibbereen survived the opening 30mins onslaught and got themselves back into the game, they always looked dangerous on the break and could have taken the lead when they broke quickly from a Carrig corner, they had a 2 v 1 situation but as the striker tried to cross the ball for his counterpart he miscued his cross and it nearly wrongfooted Thomas Corcoran, but the keeper recovered brilliantly to tip the ball around the near post.
The second half again began brightly for Carrig and on 55mins a cross from Mick Sullivan was met by Alan Stapleton who's looping header was cleared off the line only for it to fall to the head of Shane Kennedy who headed it back into the danger area where Alan Stapleton made no mistake with his header this time.
1 up and then Skibbereen took over as they looked to get back in the game, but for all their pressure they could not break down the impressive Carrig defence, and even with a few dodgy decisions by the referee in the final ten mins where they should have equalised when a bizarrely awarded free kick on the edge of the box was saved by Thomas Corcoran but it fell to a clearly offside Skibbereen striker who blazed wide when he had the goal at his mercy. Carrig were camped in their own half but when the hard working Steven O'Keeffe made a burst from halfway to the opposition box and again was clearly fouled after he had released the ball, no penalty was awarded from the referee who claimed to have not seen the incident. Finally after 5mins of added time the referee blew the final whistle to give Carrig their well deserved victory.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Derek Healy
League v Castleview in O'Sullivan Park on Saturday 29th October
Castleview 1 Carrigtwohill United 1
Carrig had to play against one of the fancied teams for the league with an understrength squad, with no less than 8 players missing.
The game itself was not very pleasing on the eye with the football being played fairly poor. The first half was dominated by the home team where they had all the territory but never really had any clear cut chances, they had plenty of corners and free kicks to test the Carrig defence, but they were met with a Carrig defence that were completely organised and on top of their game. Carrig themselves could have taken the lead from a Leonard Healy corner, when Castleview failed to deal with the ball and Shane Kennedy should have scored but missed the ball by an inch. It was scoreless at half time.
The second half started better for Carrig and with Mick Sullivan on form and getting plenty of ball he caused Castleview a lot of problems. The game remained in the balance with both defences on top but the opener came from a good break by Carrig when again Mick Sullivan ran at the heart of the Castleview defence and just got the ball to Steven O'Keeffe as he was being tackled. O'Keeffe made no mistake as he hit a low drive to the opposite corner from just inside the box to give Carrig the lead on 70mins. Castleview equalised on 80mins when a quick free kick was switched to the right wing where he was completely unmarked and he skipped past the first on rushing defender with ease and squared the ball to an unmarked midfielder who finished with a blistering shot which gave Carrig's impressive keeper Thomas Corcoran no chance. Both teams had a good chance to win it in the final 10mins but it finished 1-1, a fair result and one Carrig were probably the happier with.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Thomas Corcoran
League v Gratten United in Ballyadam Park on Saturday 22nd October
Carrigtwohill United 10 Grattan United 0
Scorers; Og, Steven O'Keeffe, Shane Kennedy, Jordan O'Leary(2), Peter O'Brien, Derek Healy, Mick Sullivan, Steve Davern & Kevin O'Sullivan
Carrig were in superb form today as we swept aside the challenge of Grattan with ease. In a team performance which had everything from hard work, passing and speed of play, Carrig took a massive 7 goal lead into half time, and didn't take the foot off the pedal in the second half either where the final goal tally was 10. An overall superb team performance.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Steven O'Keeffe
FAI Cup v Doolans Cow in Ballyadam Park on Sunday 16th October
Carrigtwohill United 5 - 1 Doolans Cow
Scorers Alan Stapleton 2, Steve Davern 2, Mick Sullivan.
Carrig have finally gotten back to winning ways in a game we were expected to win comfortably, but after a bright start from Carrig it was the visitors who took the lead on ten minutes when Doolans scored from a direct free kick which Thomas Corcoran failed to keep out. This setback didn't effect Carrig as we carried on playing good quick football, we equalised on 20 in a great move from midfield, Steve Davern played a super through ball to Carrig winger Alan Stapleton whose first time strike rifled into the top corner giving their keeper no chance. 5 minutes later Carrig took the lead when good link up between the 2 Carrig strikers left Steve Davern in front of goal and he coolly finished past the Doolans keeper. Carrig didn't have to wait too long for a third when again the link between Derek Remmington and Steve Davern tore the visitors defence apart, Remmington turned his marker and unselfishly squared the ball to his strike partner Davern to tap the ball home. 3 - 1 at half time.
The second half was a bit scrappy at times and the visitors twice got themselves good scoring opportunities but were let down with their finishing. Carrig's fourth came on 65mins when a corner from Leonard Healy cleared everyone and fell to the unmarked Alan Stapleton at the back post to volley the ball in at the post. This goal broke the Doolans resistance and it could have been a lot bigger score at the end of the game as Carrig seemed to get in at goal every time we attacked. The final goal was scored in the 80th minute when Mick Sullivan picked the ball up on halfway and dribbled past one player and had a clear run at there goal, he struck a shot from 20yards which the keeper failed to get a decent hand on. That was 5 and it finished up that way.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match - Alan Stapleton
League v Blackstone Rovers in Monard on Saturday 17th September
Blackstone Rovers 1 Carrigtwohill United 3
Scorers Jordan O'Leary, Leonard Healy 2.
A great performance from the lads yesterday, Carrig took the lead through Jordan O'Leary when Blackstone lost possession in their own half and a quick ball played to Jordan left him one on one where he finished superbly. Leonard Healy playing at left back put us two up when he went on a solo run from halfway beating 3 players before unleashing his powerful shot which the keeper failed to keep out.
The second half began better for Blackstone and they could have scored in that spell. But Carrig got back on top and added a third straight from a corner from Leonard Healy. Blackstone scored at the end of the game after sloppy defending from a corner. But overall it was a deserved win for Carrig with a great team performance.
Ballyseedy Man of the Match: Leonard Healy.
League v Kanturk in Kanturk on Saturday 10th September
Kanturk 3 Carrigtwohill United 0
A poor result for an understrength Carrigtwohill, the game was scoreless for 70mins, Carrig were guilty of missing 4 good opportunities to open the scoring before Kanturk took the lead through a fortunate mis-hit cross which stand in keeper Kevin O'Shea failed to hold in the wind and ended ended up knocking it in to his own net under no pressure, the second came within 10mins when Kanturk were awarded a penalty. Kanturk wrapped it up on the stroke of full time when the Carrig defence failed to deal with a cross and an unmarked Striker finished well at the back post. Overall a disappointing result which did not reflect how the game went.
Mossie Linnane League Cup Group A v Leeds in Ballyadam Park on Tuesday 23rd August
Carrigtwohill United 3 Leeds 0
Carrigtwohill produced a much improved performance from Saturday's game to beat Leeds 3-0 in Ballyadam.
Goals from Nozzle in the 1st half and Derek Remmington and Rugsy in the 2nd half capped off a fine display. The defence were very comfortable in keeping a clean sheet. The midfield dominated their Leeds counterparts and the strikers caused problems for the Leeds defence throughout the game.
Next up is away to Springfield on Sunday morning.
Mossie Linnane League Cup Group A v Blarney St Ath in Monard on Saturday 20th August
Blarney St Ath 5 Carrigtwohill United 0
Carrigtwohill were well beaten by a very good Blarney St team in the first game in the Mossie Linane Cup.
Despite playing some good football at times in the first half Carrig were 3-0 down at half time after conceding some soft goals. Carrig started the 2nd half very well and put Blarney St under a lot of pressure but struggled to break down a very good Blarney St defence. Despite a better defensive effort in the 2nd half Blarney St scored 2 more goals to win comfortably 5-0.
