League at home to Strand United on 12th Sept.

Carrigtwohill started their league campaign with a disappointing 2-1 defeat at home to Strand last Sunday the 12th of Sept. After an even opening, Carrig had the first real chance of the game, a free kick from the right, swung in by Danny O’ Shea, and finished by Kevin O’ Sullivan however the referee deemed O’ Sullivan to be in an offside position and the goal was ruled out, the teams went in 0-0 at half time.

Ten minutes into the second half Strand took the lead from a well worked move down the left hand side. The home side reacted well and within 5 minutes the teams were back on level terms, Danny O’ Shea again involved as he was put in by Marc Hornibrook only to unselfishly pull the ball back for the on rushing Niall O’ Sullivan who slotted away coolly from outside the 6 yard box. With ten minutes to go, Carrig were caught out at the back and a Strand substitute placed the ball into the bottom corner past goalkeeper Ritchie Byrne. Carrig had chances to level it up before the end, most notably when Marc Hornibrook and Niall O’ Sullivan got in behind the Strand defence but unfortunately neither player could get the ball past the very strong Strand goalkeeper and unfortunately the game finished 2-1.

Best for Carrig were Danny O’ Shea and Robert Manley.

Carrig team: Ritchie Byrne, Alan Sheehan, Kevin O’ Sullivan, Robert Manley, Alan Sheehan, Aaron Cooney, Niall O’ Sullivan, Barry Daly, Ollie Cooney, Marc Hornibrook and Danny O’ Shea.
