Under 14A CSL Div 5 at Watergrasshill

Watergrasshill United – 2

Carrigtwohill United – 2

The Carrigtwohill United Under-14A’a travelled away for their last league game of the current season sitting 3points clear at the top of division 5.

Their opponents were second place Watergrasshill United who needed a win to force a league deciding play off, so it was all up for grabs.

Needing a result to take the top prize of League Champions, the manager promised his lads they were not leaving without the result they needed.

The game started with high intensity as always, with both teams playing end to end football. It only took a few minutes for Carrigtwohill to open the scoring from a lovely high ball from Luke over the home sides defence to put lethal striker Daniel Mc through one on one with the keeper. He calmly slotted the ball into the far corner to give the visitors a great start.

The home team had some good skillful players in midfield and soon started putting continued pressure on Carrigtwohill’s back 4 and within minutes they opened their account. After some nervy defending, they scored to bring the game level after 10 minutes.

Carrigtwohill found it difficult to get out of their own half over the next 5 minutes and another poor clearance from put Watergrasshill through on goal again with their striker finishing to take the lead after 25 minutes.

Carrigtwohill now had a dogfight on their hands if we were to take the title.

It was then the will to survive kicked in and on the 32nd minute they equalised with a beautiful weighted pass from Kevin in behind their right back to send Daniel MC in on goal again.

The second half saw a spirited performance from Carrigtwohill who had chances to wrap up the win, with some close offside calls and near misses.

But the home side had their chances too, with Watergrasshill once again breaking through on goal and needing a spectacular save from Adam Lee the U13 keeper to save the day.

The remaining minutes seemed like an age, but the boys held on to take the point they needed to win the league outright.

Well done to the players and coaches (Ken, Alan, Pat, Adrian) for their support throughout the season. Division 4 here we come, ye better be ready.
